This fall, the newly revamped Smashbox Cosmetics brings us Girls on Film, a color collection with new eyeshadow palettes in a sleek matte black packaging.
I was sent the Softbox Photo Op Eyeshadow Palette, which contains 6 gorgeous colors in different finishes that go perfectly with one another. All colors, except Pebble and Ignite, are from the existing line and can be purchased separately in pots. The formula also contains Vitamin E to nourish skin and help shadow glide on and stay on.
Fizz is a frosty light peach.
Pebble is a soft matte taupe.
Minx is a metallic taupe with plum undertones.
Vanilla is a soft matte beige.
Ignite is a metallic burnt amber.
Sienna is a metallic warm bronze.
The shadows have a soft, buttery texture that applies smoothly. Pigmentation is decent and using a primer underneath will definitely help to give it more oomph. I also find the darker, metallic colors (Sienna and Ignite) to show up more easily while the matte ones require a bit of layering. Other than that, they wear fine without creasing or fading much.
Another thing I liked was the QR code at the back of the palette, which you can scan with your phone to see a video tutorial by Smashbox Pro Lead Artist Lori Taylor. Don’t have a smartphone handy? You can also peel the sticker for instructions on how to apply the colors. How neat right?
Overall, love the new packaging and the colors are great for a soft, day look but would definitely love to see a more pigmented formula in the future!
Smashbox Girls On Film Softbox Photo Op Eyeshadow Palette is available at Nordstrom for $42.
