NARS Makeup Your Mind: Express Yourself Eye Set Review and Swatches

June 19, 2011

Among the many awesome products that come with the limited-edition NARS Makeup Your Mind: Express Yourself Eye Set is the gorgeous NARS Makeup Your Mind: Express Yourself Eyeshadow Palette.

NARS Makeup Your Mind: Express Yourself Eye Set

NARS Makeup Your Mind: Express Yourself Eyes Palette

The palette comes in a matte black case the same size as NARS’ regular 6-pan eyeshadow palettes and measures roughly 2 3/4 inches by 3 inches. The colors are:

Abyssinia, a satiny cool-toned ivory color that is great as a base and highlight. It is just a tinge lighter than my NC30 skin.

Silk Road II, a rosy pink with flecks of gold.

Strada, a cool-toned purple with gold glitter.

Galapagos, a chocolate brown with gold glitter.

Fuji, a shimmery army green.

Brumes II , a shimmery smoky bluish gray.

Like most NARS eyeshadows, these applied smoothly with good pigmentation (yes even the ones with glitter!) and blended so easily. They also wore super well and lasted all day with NARS Pro Prime Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Base underneath. Plus the fact that you get eyeshadows of different textures in the same palette just makes it so versatile and great for a variety of looks.

Beautiful! I’ve been thinking about ordering the Brumes duo, so I’ve been researching swatchesforever! Did you use anything else for the Brumes smoky look? It looks very purple/indigo on you and I’m hoping to get that same look!

Thanks jit 🙂 I can’t remember on the top of the my head what I used to create the look. I did it for the NARS Makeup Your Mind competition and I believe the breakdown is in the book. I will dig it up this week and update with more info.

The brumes smoky eye is so gorgeous. Can you give instructions as how to apply and in what order for the makeup challenged? Thank you!

    • Reply Phyllis March 28, 2015 at 4:02 pm

Thanks Carrie! Here’s the instructions directly from the Makeup Your Mind: Express Yourself book:

“Apply Zardoz Cream Eyeshadow all over the eye with fingertip, blending from the lashline into the crease of the eye. Line top and bottom lashlines and inner membrane of the eye with Black Moon Eyeliner Pencil. Dip Eye Shader Brush into the right side of Brumes Duo Eyeshadow and the right side of Pandora Duo Eyeshadow and to the lid, the base of the brow bone and alone the lower lashline, extending the color beyond the outer corner of the eyes. Use the same brush to blend the left side of Paris Duo Eyeshadow onto the upper browbone as a highlight. Curl lashes with Eyelash Curler before brushing them top and bottom with Larger Than Life Volumizing Mascara. Apply another layer of Black Moon Eyeliner Pencil to the inner membrane of the eye for added intensity.”
