Celebrity Makeup Breakdown: Rihanna At 2008 American Music Awards

Singer Rihanna has outdone herself again at the 2008 American Music Awards! Not only did she snag 2 awards (Favorite Female Soul/R&B Artist and Favorite Female Pop/Rock Artist), she also scored two of the hottest looks of the night.

Spotted in a gorgeous champagne-colored Zac Posen dress, Riri arrived the AMAs with a wavy ‘do, big dangly earrings paired with soft, subtle makeup.

Eyes
To complement her dress, Riri’s eyes sparkled in a glittery golden beige/creamy white color contoured with a deeper bronze on the crease. Try MAC Your Ladyship pigment or Retrospeck eyeshadow on the eyelid and MAC Mulch eyeshadow blended lightly on the crease. A thin black line was drawn along the upper lash line with a liquid liner and false lashes were applied on the top. A shimmery taupe color like MAC Smoke & Diamonds eyeshadow was used on the lower lash line and a few coats of mascara were applied on the bottom lashes to define the lower eye.

Cheeks
A shimmery bronzer along the cheekbones is all you need to recreate Riri’s sexy glow. Try Wet ‘n Wild Bronzer MegaGlo Illuminating Powder in 348 Starlight Bronze> or MAC Refined Golden Bronzer.

Lips
Lip your lips with a liner that matches your natural lip color. Apply a mauvey pink lipstick like Bobbi Brown’s Pale Mauve Lip Color and top with a clear gloss for the most luscious lips. Alternatively, just slick on MAC Viva Glam VI Lipglass.

For her performance of hit single “Disturbia”, Riri changed into an uber sexy black studded corset and vamped up her look with a smokin’ hot cat eye.

Eyes
To recreate Riri’s “good girl gone bad” look, all you need is a cat eye and some heavy eyeliner. Start by lining both the upper and lower lash lines with a black pencil liner. Extend the line past your outer corner and flick it upward to make your eyes appear longer. Remember to line all the way into the inner corners as well. Next, smudge a shimmery black color like Jane Clubbing eyeshadow on top of the liner and reline your eyes with a black liquid liner. Make sure you do not see any white spaces between your lash line and the liner. Clean up any fallouts under the eye with a foundation brush dipped in foundation/concealer.

Lips
To match with her edgier makeup, Riri ditched her bubblegum pink lips for a super metallic neutral pink lip color.

  1. Hey! I love her makeup, especially at the first picture. What do you think about Nylon and Texture for the first picture? I am not in make up, but want to try the look and the eyeshadow on the lid looks more silver than gold, isn’t it? It would be nice, if you answer :) Greets
