At Hache Spring/Summer 2014, lead makeup artist Val Garland working for M·A·C Cosmetics went for a “teddy boy tough chic” look with a graphic eye and matte, apricot lips.
Inspired by the movie “The Fabulous Stains”, Val envisioned a girl who is part of a gang. “Her makeup is her signature look,” explained Val. “It is all about a strong, definite black eye and sickly salmon lips… she doesn’t care about the skin as much.”
On the skin, Val used very little foundation as a veil and powdered down only the center of the face, letting the natural skin shine through as highlight (there was no highlight or contour).
To create the graphic eyes, Val first dusted loose powder under the eyes. Next, she drew a line with Blacktrack Fluidline (you can also use cream eyeliner) in the middle of the eye underneath the pupils and blended Carbon Eyeshadow over it to smoke it out.
On the upper lid, she first drew a line along the lashline then added another one through the crease and blended the two together using a straight brush. The brows were pushed “in the wrong way” towards the center of the face with Brow Set and topped with a burgundy – instead of black – mascara for a softer, warmer effect. She finished by adding a beige pencil inside the eyes for a wide-awake look.
The lips were painted a “sickly salmon” color for “a little bit matte, a litte bit chalky” effect.
Nails were painted with a pinkish lilac with a top coat over it.
