Kate Somerville SPF 55 Serum Sunscreen Review

December 25, 2010

With a long list of celebrity fans including Nicole Richie, Debra Messing, Cameron Diaz and Marcia Cross, Kate Somerville SPF 55 Serum Sunscreen utilizes a patented SPF boosting technology to provide high-level protection against UVA and UVB rays.

Main ingredients include your typical sunscreen ingredients – Avobenzone (3%), Homosalate (10%), Octisalate (5%), Octocrylene (2%) and Oxybenzone (6%) – along with Aloe Vera, Vitamins A, C and E to soothe and refine skin.

The oil-free formula feels very gentle and not the slightest irritating on my sensitive combination skin. It moisturizes my skin nicely and sinks in within seconds without leaving any greasy feeling, chalkiness or a scary white cast. My face always feels soft and supple when I put this on. I also love that the sunscreen does not ball up or interfere with any foundation/concealer/powder I put on afterwards. Not to mention, the high SPF is more than sufficient for everyday.

Yay for a sunscreen I LOVE putting on!

The Kate Somerville SPF 55 Serum Sunscreen is now available at Sephora, katesomerville.com and Nordstrom for $45.

Do you know how this compares to the La Mer SPF 30 UV Protecting Fluid? I’ve used Kate Somerville products in the past and while they’re nice, I can’t get over the smell..! Maybe I’ll try both out when the stores open early tomorrow, but I’d love to hear your opinion 🙂

      Jessica,

I didn’t like the scent of some of the KS products either (ExfoliKate Intensive Exfoliating Treatment was a good example) but I didn’t find the the SPF 55 Serum Sunscreen unpleasant at all. There are definitely worse smelling sunscreens out there.

Oh and I haven’t tried the La Mer but I’ve heard many good things about it.

Is there any indication of how good the UVA protection is?
