MAC Style Black Collection Lip Products Reviews

September 24, 2009

The Black Knight Lipstick ($14) is a true black color. Thanks to the Cremesheen formula, it glides on very easily and has a bit of glossiness to it. It also goes on semi-sheer so you definitely have to layer it on to get the color you see on the ad. I highly recommend exfoliating your lips beforehand and using a lip brush to apply – colors this dark can be so unforgiving!

Compared to Black Knight, Midnight Media Mattene ($14.50) gives less shine and has a tinge of burgundy undertones. It goes on slightly more opaque but will still require a bit of layering to get a solid color.

As for the other Mattene, Night Violet, it is a plummy/wine-ish repromote from the Mattenes collection. It is the most wearable out of the three and has the best pigmentation. The pinkish color you see on the model is this color.

The Glimmerglasses ($18) are all on the sheer side. Blackware is a creamy black color with no glitter or shimmer. It goes on very creamy and even though it gives the most color out of the three, it is still too sheer to be worn alone.

Bling Black may look like a black with gold/olive shimmer in the tube, but it goes on very sheer and shows up almost clear with tiny gold sparkles. You definitely need to use a lipstick underneath to bring out the color.

Blackfire is very similar to Bling Black, only with pink purple shimmer. Again, it is very sheer and will hardly show up on the lips on its own.

More reviews, swatches and my haul.
