MAC Prep + Prime & Glam Gams Collection Reviews

Prep + Prime Face Protect SPF50 ($26.50)
This is so replacing my Biotherm Sunfitness Revitalizing Sunscreen for Face SPF15! Like the Biotherm sunscreen, this feels super lightweight and hardly greasy on. It sinks right into my skin and does not leave behind a white cast like some sunscreens do. It is also specially formulated with oil-absorbing powder to help prevent oil breakthrough. Plus the high SPF value means you get to skip sunscreen which is double yay for lazy people like me. My only complaint is how tiny the bottle is but other than that, I *love* this product.
Prep + Prime Skin ($22)
This is a totally different product from the Face Protect. It is “formulated with special-effect silicones to improve the laydown and application of foundation or powder”. It goes on a lot more more watery and feels very hydrating. Even though I do not see any evening out of skin redness or soothing of skin as claimed, I really like how it plumps up my skin in an instant leaving it feeling very supple. The finish is also very different. It is pretty shimmery, in fact, a little too shimmery for my taste. If you have big pores or like the matte look, this is not the product for you.

Glam Gams

Sundressing ($22)
This is a repromote from the Sundressing collection last year. Basically, it is a foam bronzer for the body that comes in a spray can. It is makeup and *not* a self-tanner so it needs to be washed off at the end of the day. There are currently four shades available – Medium, Medium Dark, Dark, and Deep Dark – which I find all too orange. The soft mousse formula does make it highly blendable and super easy to apply but sadly, this product has zero pigmentation. I tested Medium and the color went on a LOT lighter and barely showed up on me. I also did not see any shimmery effect. And while the can looks cool, the pump is hard to work with and does not dispense the product evenly. If I press too hard, I get a huge blob of product; if I press too lightly, I barely get anything. Overall, I say skip this, there are better products out there at this price.

Thank you for another great review Phyllis! I was wondering if you could write a review on other brands of foundation primers. Particularly the clear makeup ones because I have tried the MAC prep + prime skin and it made me feel like a discoball and coloured foundation bases always slightly alter the colour of my foundation. I have combination/sensitive skin (shiny tzone, sensitive cheeks). Have you heard anything about Philosophy The Present or Smashbox Photofinish? It would be great if you could write something about them.

I just went out and purchased the Prep+Prime with SP50 today. It creates an amazingly smooth finish. It goes on pretty white, as most things with a lot of SPF, but it absorbs so quickly into the skin! I can see how you love this product because I’m loving it too!

P.S. I agree about the other Prep+Prime product. It goes on a lot lighter — as it’s more watery — but it’s way too shimmery, especially for the face for the day time. The first product definitely makes for a better based for makeup application or just a general matte finish.

Liz, what kind of finish are you looking for? If you want something shimmery, check out Lancome’s Flash Bronzer Instant Colour Self-Tanning Leg Gel with Pure Vitamin E. If you just want some color, check out Avene’s Self-tanning lotion – I use this on my face and I LOVE it!
