With bridal season in full swing, now is the time to drool over some very pretty dresses and catch up on the latest bridal hair and makeup. At Jenny Packham Bridal Spring 2015 Collection, the look was inspired by photographs of 1930s British society photographer, Madame Yevonde. The photographs’ soft tonal colors and hazy, neoclassical ambiance directly influenced the design and palette of the collection and translating into a romantic hair and makeup look that consisted of earthy colors and a voluminous ponytail.
Makeup
To create a flawless complexion, lead makeup artist Talia Shobrook first prepped skin with Laura Mercier Foundation Primer – Hydrating. Next, she used Laura Mercier Smooth Finish Flawless Fluide to create a healthy, even tone. Then, she covered any imperfections using Laura Mercier Secret Camouflage. To sculpt the cheeks, she applied Laura Mercier Matte Eye Colour in Cashmere followed by a thin layer of Laura Mercier Second Skin Cheek Colour in Barely Pink. Next, she applied Laura Mercier Secret Brightening Powder underneath the eyes and dusted Laura Mercier Invisible Loose Setting Powder in Universal on the rest of the face to set the makeup and make the skin appear “demi-matte”. To highlight and give “freshness to the skin”, Shobrook applied Laura Mercier Foundation Primer – Hydrating to the cheeks and the tip of the nose using the Laura Mercier Fan Powder Brush.
On the eyes, Shobrook first primed the eye area with Laura Mercier Eye Basics. Immediately before application, she wet Laura Mercier Matte Eye Colour in Café au Lait before finely applying it starting from the inner corner, following the lashline and extending it out to the outer corner with a sharp tick. Next, she lightly applied Laura Mercier Matte Eye Colour in Sesame onto the eyelids before sculpting the eye with Laura Mercier Matte Eye Colour in Cashmere in the crease using Laura Mercier Pony Tail Brush. Shobrook then highlighted under the brow bone with Laura Mercier Matte Eye Colour in Buttercream and coated lashes with Laura Mercier Full Blown Volume Suprême Lash Building Mascara. She then went over the mascara with a clean mascara wand to separate the lashes. To tie the look together and flawlessly frame the face, she lightly defined the eyebrows using Laura Mercier Eye Brow Pencil.
For a full lip, Shobrook mixed Laura Mercier Crème Smooth Lip Colour in Sienna and Cocoa and applied the combination to the lips with Laura Mercier Flat Eye Liner Brush, starting in the middle and fading out, which allowed a transparency of color. This application technique allowed the color to appear more concentrated in the center of the lips.
Hair
Hairstylist Jeanie Syfu working for Tresemme gave models a low ponytail with lots of volume around the crown. Here’s how:
1. Apply Tresemme 24 Hour Body Foaming Mousse liberally to all sections of the hair, then rough-dry.
2. Brush out the hair with a Mason Pearson brush to work the product in and apply clip-in hair extensions from the nape of the neck to just above the ear, as needed.
3. Tease hair in small sections and lightly spray with Tresemme 24 Hour Body Finishing Spray.
4. With your fingers, gather hair at the nape of the neck and secure with an elastic.
5. Take a small strand of hair from underneath the ponytail and wrap around the base to cover the elastic and pin into place.
6. Loosen the ponytail just behind the ears at the nape to create a round shape. Gently pull a few wisps of hair from the ponytail to frame the face and fluff the hair lightly with fingers.
7. Finish with Tresemme 24 Hour Body Finishing Spray for long-lasting volume.
