July 14, 2013

This month, Make Up For Ever brings us a new mascara, Smoky Extravagant. And during The Makeup Show Chicago 2013, I was very lucky to get my hands on a tube to test drive it for you ladies. Read on to see what I think!

The Smoky Extravagant Mascara is formulated with natural Mineral Pigments, Panthenol Pro-vitamin B5, Wax Complex and Abyssinian Oil for volume, length and curl. There is only one shade available, an intense black.

The first thing I noticed was the brush. It has 580 bristles and a cone shape just like Lancome Hypnose Doll Lashes Mascara, only MUCH bigger. The head reached my inner corners and lower lashes easily but the base was definitely too big for my eyes. I had to be really careful with application or I would end up with mascara all over my eyelid.

The formula though was pretty awesome. It felt non-drying and coated my lashes thoroughly with ease, adding length and volume without much clumping. It also left my lashes super soft and lightweight. Regardless of how I piled this on, my lashes remained light as a feather and stayed curled all day.

Finally, while I liked that the mascara washed off easily with warm water, it was not very water nor oil resistant. When worn without powder on my undereye area, I ended up with smudges under the eyes in just a few hours.

    Hi Phyllis,

The mascara looks pretty good on you! Do you think it will work if I have dry skin? Thank you 🙂
