How To Get Kate Beckinsale’s Hair and Makeup at Total Recall Premiere

August 4, 2012

With the help of makeup artist Molly R. Stern and hairstylist Mara Roszak, Kate Beckinsale once again wowed us at the premiere of “Total Recall” earlier this week. See how to recreate the look at home after the jump!

Makeup
“Her look was edgy and undone while still looking flawless for a big Hollywood night out. Wearing a reptile printed Armani Prive dress, Kate left looking like a serpent goddess,” explains Molly.

Molly started by prepping Kate’s skin with Jurlique Rose Water Balancing Mist, followed by By Terry Serum De Rose and Arcona Eye Dew. For a sheer yet luminous finish, Molly used Chantecaille Future Skin Foundation. Next, she applied Laura Mercier Creme Cheek Color in Oleander to the apples of Kate’s cheeks and dusted NYX illuminating Bronzer in Magnetic high on the cheek bones to reflect the light.

On the eyes, Molly started with NYX Cream Shadow in Gunmetal on the lid then brightened the shade by dusting the olive green shadow from YSL 5 Colour Harmony for Eyes in Garden of Eden all over up to crease. Next, she popped the inside of Kate’s lid with Beauty is Life Perfect Shine Eyes in Palmery. To define Kate’s lash line, Molly applied Hourglass Calligraphy Black Eyeliner as a base and topped that off with Glam Liner Aqua Luxe by NYX in #08 which is a golden olive color. Molly lined underneath the lashline with the same olive liner to get a smudgy finish that would last all night. She curled Kate’s lashes with Shu Uemura lash curler and then applied two coats of Laura Mericer Full Blow Volume Lash Building Mascara.

To finish off the look, Molly applied Hourglass Opaque Rouge Liquid Lipstick in Canvas, blotted that off then added the NYX Glam Lip Gloss in #07 VIP.

Hair
Taking inspiration from Kate’s structured dress, Mara created a texturized look that is “edgy and undone, with an effortless feel.”

Step 1. Prep and Texturize
Achieving the undone quality of Kate’s hair relies on creating texture while preventing flyaways. Start by evenly applying John Frieda Frizz-Ease Curl Reviver Styling Mousse through towel-dried hair to tame frizz, boost shine and build texture. For added volume, spray roots with a texturizing spray and rough dry.

Step 2. Secure the Style
Next, twist small sections of hair to create tousled texture. Once hair is completely dry, gently tease the crown for a bit of height. Next, pull hair back create a loose braid. Tuck the ends under and pin in place with bobby pins, crossing the pins to secure the look and make sure the braid stays in place. Allow pieces in the front to fall out and frame the face.

Step 3. Polish and Perfect
To finish the look, spray John Frieda Frizz-Ease Moisture Barrier Firm-Hold Hair Spray on your fingertips and pinch sections while rubbing your fingers together on the hair to add more texture and break up the look. Then in an even, all-around motion, mist a thin coat of hair spray to set the look.
