Glam Beauty Board Summer 2012 Trend Reviews

June 13, 2012

Recently, I was invited to take part in Glam’s Beauty Board, a panel of 10 bloggers to review the latest and greatest beauty products each season. And for my first assignment, eleven awesome products arrived on my doorstep to help me create the perfect summer look.

Summer 2012 Glam Beauty Board trend reviews

From the the latest Miami Collection, Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Cream Shadow in Candlelight is a beautiful light gold with shimmer. The color, though sheer, glided on easily and instantly brightened up my eyes. The wear is also phenomenal and literally stays on all day without fading or creasing a bit.

Stila Custom Color Blush in Self-Adjusting Coral is a powder blush that reacts with your skin’s pH levels to create a one-of-a-kind customized glow. It applied with superb pigmentation and showed up true to the color in the pan, a vibrant coral with tiny golden shimmer. It also wore really well, lasting 8+ hours even in the 90F heat.

Then there are three new shades of Clinique Chubby Stick Moisturizing Lip Colour Balms. These come in a chubby crayon-like packaging for easy application and each is loaded with mango and shea butters to keep your lips soft and smooth. Two Ton Tomato, my favorite, is an orange red; Curvy Candy is a medium pink and Mighty Mimosa is a rosy pink with gold shimmer. The lip balms felt very moisturizing and added a hint of color with a pretty, subtle sheen.

Last in the color department is OPI Nail Lacquer in I Don’t Give A Rotterdam, a dusty gray-blue with silver shimmer. Personally, I’m not too thrilled with the color (I prefer brights for the summer) but the formula was easy to work with and all I needed was two coats for opacity.

Picture of me wearing the products! Bobbi Brown Candlelight on the eyelid, Stila Self-Adjusting Coral on the cheeks, Clinique Two Ton Tomato on the lips and OPI I Don’t Give A Rotterdam on the nails.

Next up, skincare products.

On the left is L’Oreal Paris Sublime Sun Advanced Sunscreen SPF 50+ Hydra Lotion Spray, a spray-on sunscreen packed with anti-oxidants like Vitamin E and White Grapeseed along with several chemical sunscreen ingredients to protect your skin against UVA and UVB rays. I love that it is super easy to use and the formula is ultra water-resistant, sweat-resistant and SO lightweight!

In the middle is Philosophy Clear Days Ahead Oil-Free Salicylic Acid Acne Treatment Cleanser, a lightweight gel cleanser with salicylic acid to deeply cleanse skin and reduce acne-causing bacteria. Not only does it come with a refreshing orange scent, it removes light makeup in a jiffy without drying out or irritating my skin.

Finally, on the right is Dr Andrew Weil for Origins Mega-Bright Skin Tone Correcting Serum, a treatment with an all-natural rosa roxburghii complex to reduce dark spots and discolorations while preventing them from reappearing. I have not used this long enough to see any brightening effects but the serum sank in instantly and left my skin feeling super soft.

Speaking of brightening, we also have Dove Clinical Protection Clear Tone Skin Renew Anti-Perspirant/Deodorant. Besides providing prescription-strength wetness protection to keep your underarms dry all day, the product also contains calendula and sunflower seed extracts to accelerate the natural skin renewal process and visibly lighten discolorations over time. How awesome is that?

And how can you forget sexy, tousled hair for the summer? Infused with natural dead sea salt and sea kelp, Not Your Mother’s Beach Babe Texturizing Sea Salt Spray works even on my naturally straight Asian hair. All I have to do is mist generously onto dry hair, scrunch a bit then wrap my hair in a bun and voila! Gorgeous beach waves with a light matte finish and zero greasiness/tackiness. LOVESSS!

To unwind the damage done by the sun, chlorine and salt water, there is Kerastase Masquintense Hair Mask, the first hair mask available on the market. The product contains proteins, lipids and glucose to restore hair’s ideal nutritive balance and I was sold only after one application. My hair felt so much softer and shinier and it smells amazing too!

Last but not least, a cute yet practical Sonia Kashuk Tribal Print Duffle Bag that comes with two detachable clear plastic pouches to safely store all the goodies. The bag is made out of Nylon and its generous 12.5″ x 18.5″ x 10.5″ size makes it perfect even for a weekend getaway.

Is the sunscreen for face? Would it work for oily combination skin?

    • Reply Phyllis June 20, 2012 at 9:18 pm

      Hi Joyce,

Yes you can use the sunscreen on both the face and body… just make sure you spray onto hands before applying onto the face.

I personally have combination skin that’s on the dry side and this is perfect for me. Since the the product dries super fast without feeling heavy/oily, I do think it can work on oily combination skin but I cannot guarantee that it would work on oily oily skin.

Hi, re cosmetics, do you have any suggestions on how to create the cat-eye look with makeup? I have tried a few times but been totally unsuccessful unfortunately.
    Thank you!

If you like pink, try Curvy Candy instead.
