Makeover With Christopher Kam At Lane Crawford Backstage Beauty Bar

September 9, 2010

Last Sunday, I was very honored to meet Paris-based makeup artist Christopher Kam at the Backstage Beauty event at Lane Crawford, Hong Kong. Christopher is a regular at Paris and London Fashion Weeks and works frequently with all of the top shots like Aaron de Mey and Charlotte Tilbury.

Me with Christopher

For my makeover, Christopher used some of the latest Fall launches (hello my newly beloved Benefit Girl Meets Pearl and NARS Pure Matte Lipsticks!) to give me a gorgeous smoky eye with a soft lip (thanks Christopher – you’re the BEST!)

Face
• Benefit Girl Meets Pearl as a base
• Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer in Bisque as needed
• Yves Saint Laurent Touche Eclat in #3 as needed
• NARS The Multiple in Copacabana to highlight

Eyes
• La Mer The Eye Concentrate to prep the eye area
• Bobbi Brown Eyeshadow in Taupe to fill in eyebrows
• Bobbi Brown Natural Brow Shaper to set the eyebrow
• Bobbi Brown Creamy Eye Pencil in Mahogany on upper lashline
• Yves Saint Laurent Eyeshadow Duo in #29
• Yves Saint Laurent Single Eyeshadow in #13
• NARS The Multiple in Copacabana to highlight
• Hourglass Cosmetics Film Noir Mascara on top lashes
• Makeup For Life Lashes in #Hugs n Kisses cut into smaller pieces on outer corner

Cheeks
• NARS Bronzing Powder in Laguna

Lips
• NARS Pure Matte Lipstick in Tonkin all over
• NARS Pure Matte Lipstick in Bangkok in center

While getting my makeup done, I also got to swap beauty tricks and insider news with Christopher. Below are some of his favorite makeup products:

• Benefit Girl Meets Pearl
• YSL Touché Éclat
• Laura Mercier Secret Camouflage (one of Pat Mcgrath’s must-haves)
• Bobbi Brown Cream Eyeshadow
• Shiseido The Makeup Foundation
• NARS The Multiple

And a few beauty tips for you ladies:

Never ever rub your eyes. To remove the most stubborn eye makeup, soak a cotton pad with a dual-phase eye makeup remover for at least 30 seconds.

• To go from runway to realway, stick to the same techniques but use earthy tones to make it more wearable.

• To combat puffy eyes, sweep a light color all over the eyelid and a darker color on the crease – sounds cliche but it works!

• When it comes to blending, it is all about practice. Make sure you use a fluffy brush and blend with the tip in a feathery, windshield motion.

Ohh, I’ve been dying to try the new NARS Pure Mattes, but I haven’t seen them at my Sephora store yet!

Yah they are not officially out yet, Saks Fifth Avenue is the only place that has them for now.

The colors are really pretty though and they are definitely less drying than the Velvet Matte Lip Pencils.
