Skinfood Black Sesame Hot Mask Review

November 13, 2008

When I finally got my hands on Skin Food Black Sesame Hot Mask, I was SUPER thrilled! Black sesame has always been one of the staples in Chinese culture and is widely known for its health and beauty benefits to internal organs, skin and hair.

The mask comes in a cute little tub and contains black sesame extracts, rich phospholipids and vitamin E to deeply cleanse your pores while leaving it soft and refreshed. All you have to do is massage it gently onto your face in a circular motion, leave it on for 3-5 minutes and rinse off.

The texture is a little thick and gooey but once I put it on, it dissolved into my skin and left behind these little black sesame seeds. The heating sensation was very mild and only lasted a few seconds. My face felt very clean and soft afterwards with no dry, tight feeling. The best part is the smell. This baby smells just like real black sesame and I was so tempted to just eat the whole tub! If only I can get some good black sesame paste (่Š้บป็ณŠ) in Chicago *sigh*

hi phyllis.. i just wanted to point out that for the last few times i visited your blog, the “Categories” section on the left hand side got madeover and there are less categories there than before. ie. i don’t see the category *Skincare* and when i mouseover a “Category” link, i can’t see corresponding archives. I hope it’s not just some HTML bug on blogger. just thought i’d let you know!

    J,

I just switched over to the new blogger template and I can’t use the previous categories script anymore.

I’m slowly adding all the different categories back on but if you’re looking for a certain topic, you can try the search engine on the top left or e-mail me at makeup_forlife@yahoo.com =)

    Yin,

This is not a new product. I believe it is available in Hong Kong and Singapore as well.

And same here! I have to get my Skin Food products from my contact in Asia. So far I like everything I got and I really want to try out more of their products.

    I LOVE black sesame!

If only I could try this. I don’t have any contacts in Asia to buy this for me.

I hate going to Chinatown and buying their boxed black sesame dessert stuff, there’s just too much sugar in them.

Making my own dessert out of the sesame itself is always good. But washing them by hand is a killer! Would you have any ideas on solutions on how to get the sand out faster?

  • Reply Phyllis November 23, 2008 at 10:55 pm

As much as I love the dessert, I have no idea how to make it. And I totally agree with you on the instant ones. I wanna go home for food =(

i bought this the other day in the skin food store in hk. it left my skin feeling super soft and clean. i wanted to buy the rice mask but they ran out of the tub and the sample! but the sales lady said that the black sesame mask is still pretty good. phyllis, do you know if they sell skin food in US?

p.s. i also ended up buying the mushroom bb cream, i like it a lot better than the Etude BB cream in the blue tube. skin food offers a ton a great products, but it’s hard to tell what’sgood. with that said, thank you for your honest and helpful reviews phyllis ๐Ÿ™‚ keep them coming <3

    Hi Phyllis!

I really enjoy reading your blog! I live in Korea and I love skin food’s products and its so affordable.

Anyway making the black sesame dessert is really easy! I make it all the time coz its so good for you.

    1. Take 200g of black sesame – roast gently in a pan until it gives off a nice nutty smell.

    2. Then place the seeds + 3 table spoons of rice grains + 2 cups of water into a blender and blend for about 10min or until it is really fine

    3. Transfer the liquid into a pot and slow bring to a boil while stirring. The liquid should thicken and add sugar to taste! ( I use honey instead of sugar) You can also add more water if you dont like it too thick!!

    This makes about 4 serves

    Enjoy!

great reivew, i was suprised how much product there was. ^^
    i say at least 15x+ usage. ^5.

    where’d you get it?
the singaporian prices are awful. so expensive, you can try to find good bargains on ebay, sasa.com, or skintouchx.cc.cc but if there is anything other sites update me!

i have seen korean stores in cali carry stocks of them but ony the bb creams though.

Don’t know if this’ll help you, but I’ve just recently been buying from this ebay seller, skinfoodbestprice. She’s selling Skinfood items for extremely reasonable prices! Like the mushroom bb cream is a total of $15.99, and that’s already shipping ($12.99+$3). I believe she lives in New Jersey or New York, but she ships fairly quickly. I’ve been so happy with her; she’s so friendly and helpful. She can also special order Skinfood items you’re looking for if she doesn’t have it in her listing. Just ask her. And she guarantees freshness with the Skinfood products she sells, and I can vouch for that because the items I’ve bought from her are made from Mar 2009-present.
