To answer some of your skin-related questions, I did a brief interview with Dr. Jeanine B. Downie, a board certified dermatologist with medical licenses in the states of New Jersey and New York. Dr. Downie is also a frequent contributor to The Today Show, Good Morning America, The View etc. and has been quoted on numerous magazines like Glamour, Allure, Elle and more.

Kenzo’s newest invention, Cleansing Ice Jelly, is definitely not your ordinary cleanser. It contains Ginger plant water and Ginseng extract to clean and tone while stimulating circulation and improving blood flow for younger-looking, glowy skin. But what sets it aside from other cleansers is the texture. It goes on very lightweight, like a white jelly but turns clear with a water-like consistency upon skin contact. It also feels very gentle on the skin and cleanses with no tight/greasy feeling.

One word of advice, if you wear waterproof mascara or heavy makeup, this will not do the job completely. But as a cleanser for the AM in the upcoming hot summer months, this is perfect.

The Cleansing Ice Jelly is available at www.kenzousa.com and all Kenzo counters for $28.

Lately, I have become obsessed with Kenzo’s Relaxing White Lotus skincare line. The line is inspired by white lotus and is all about milky textures and divine fragrances to help your skin relax. All products come in a white, minimalistic packaging and are suitable for all skin types, especially those with stressed-out skin.

The Relaxing Whipped Eye Cream ($45) is definitely my favorite from the line.

It contains plant water, white lotus, essential oils and mineral salts (which are the main ingredients in the White Lotus line) along with Actiflow to stimulate circulation and reduce black circles and puffiness, and Dormance/ Narcissus Bulb Extract to slow down cells to preserve energy.

The texture is very velvety and sinks in like a dream. My eyes feel instantly refreshed, moisturized and definitely less puffy. I also use this in the AM and never had a problem putting makeup on top.

Thanks to the harsh Chicago winter weather and my sensitive dehydrated combo skin, I normally get tiny flakes around my nose and cheeks during this time of the year but ever since I started using Bliss Peeling Groovy Facial Serum ($65), my evil flakes have never returned!

The Peeling Groovy Facial Serum is a revamped version of Bliss’s famous Sleeping Peel Serum. It is a clear, oil-free, non-irritating exfoliating serum that works on smoothing fine lines, minimizing pores, correcting uneven skin texture and brightening skin discolorations.

Moisturizing is one of the most important steps in the Asian skincare regimen. Asian women believe that a “watery”, radiant complexion makes a crucial base for good makeup and their secret to achieving that? Applying lotion religiously.

Unlike the regular moisturizers that we call lotion here in the US, “lotion” (化妝水) is a hydrating toner that should be applied after cleansing and before moisturizer. While some people argue that toners are redundant and just another marketing gimmick, I personally can’t live without them. My rationale? If your skin is dehydrated and you slap on layers and layers of moisturizers, they will just sit on top of your skin and not get absorbed. But if you use a hydrating toner to soften the top layer of your skin first, it will help any moisturizer or treatment that follows to penetrate better into your skin.
