Runway Makeup Looks, Tutorials and Application Tips

To complement the long and short dresses in silver, blue and neutrals at the Versace Fall 2009 collection, makeup artist Pat McGrath created an intense “midnight eyes” in metallic black and midnight blue colors with heavily rimmed eyeliner. Fake eyelashes were added for extra drama while the skin was kept subdued and flawless in a dewy foundation and shimmery pale pink blush, and the lips were topped with a nude gloss.

Drama is an understatement when it comes to the Dolce & Gabbana A/W 2009 show at Milan Fashion Week. The collection featured lots and lots of shoulders (yes they are back!), all kinds of fur, ruffles, tuxedos and even a ballgown with Marilyn Monroe photo prints. While black and white dominated the luxe collection of belted dresses and coats, Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana added in a pop of color with a few pieces and accessories in hot pink, blue and red. My favorites are the red corseted dress, the ruffled dresses and those gigantic suede platform wedges (how can you not love them?!) What about you ladies?

At , designers Dean and Dan Caten gave us a glam grunge/rock ‘n roll collection that is obviously targeted towards the young. Pieces included plaid shirts, preppy button-down shirts, slouchy cargo pants, miniskirts, boyfriend blazers, leather jackets and more. Plus models even strutted down the runway with huge shades, knit caps, a Starbucks coffee in hand, leather bags which are all so typical of what we see among the young Hollywood stars nowadays. Loves it!

Inspired by ’80s fashion icon Tina Chow, the Gucci A/W 2009 show was all about “a glittering, glamorous time, when going out was a way of life.” The collection had a really nice palette of colors which included turquoise, azul, violet, red, gray and black. Pieces ranged from kimono tops in asymmetrical stripes, polka-dot dresses, super metallic blouses, tailored pants and sparkly leggings and jumpsuit.
