Bronzer Reviews

I understand how picking the right bronzer can be a pain so fear not, I have narrowed down a list of bronzers I tried and loved just for you ladies:

If you are looking for a glowy/shimmery look, try

Hard Candy So Baked Bronzer ($9)
Available in 4 gorgeous shades of golds and bronzes, these come in the cutest compact and are such a great dupe of my favorite MAC Mineralize Skinfinish at half the price! They impart a dewy, bronzed glow and can easily be layered on for more color. My only gripe is these babies don’t travel well and tend to break easily so make sure you keep them somewhere safe.

MAC Mineralize Skinfinish ($22.50)
I have been a fan of MSFs for years and I love them as bronzers! They come in a huge variety of colors to suit different skin tones and always give such a pretty, Kim Kardashian kind of glow. I highly recommend Shooting Star, Comfort and Warmed if you have light to medium skin tone.
Overall Rating: A+

Revlon Skinlights Face Illuminator Lotion ($12)
This is a liquid illuminator that you can mix into your foundation or apply directly onto the face. I have Golden Light, which is a shimmery dark bronzy color. It feels very moisturizing and makes my skin looks dewy and sun-kissed. It does have a tendency to be heavy though so if you have combination/oily skin or apply too much, it can look greasy.
* This product is now discontinued and was also known as the Instant Skin Brightener.

Wet ‘n Wild Bronzer MegaGlo Illuminating Powder in 348 Starlight Bronze ($3.99)
Similar to Bobbi Brown Shimmer Brick Compact, this contains 4 shimmery shades of gold and bronzes which can be used on the face, cheeks and eyes. The powder is decently fine and the pigmentation superb. I like to swirl my brush over all the colors and apply this all over and it really makes my cheekbones *pop*! The colors also make really pretty eyeshadows. Definitely a steal at this price!

For a soft matte look, try

NARS Multiple Bronzer ($37)
After a customized makeover by NARS International Makeup Director Ayako, I went home with Cap Vert, a warm terracotta color that also created the gorgeous tan look at the 3.1 Phillip Lim Spring 2009 show.

Just like The Multiple, this has a creamy texture and glides on very easily. It has a matte finish and gives a more realistic tan as supposed to a golden glow. I also love that it has just the slightest amount of red undertones, which makes a really pretty nude color on the lips.
Overall Rating: A

Stila Sun SPF 15 Bronzing Powder ($28)
This comes in 2 shades – 01 and 02. I have 02, which is a warm, medium bronze color. The powder has a very creamy texture and blends well onto the skin, giving it a soft matte finish. The SPF15 is also a nice touch since you don’t see SPF in most bronzers.
Overall Rating: B+

Wet ‘n Wild Bronzzer Ultimate Bronzing Powder ($2.99)
This may not have the prettiest packaging but I always go back to it whenever my skin needs a bit of warmth. I have Medium/Dark, a dark warm bronze color. It is quite pigmented so you do have to apply sparingly. On my MAC NC30 skin, it gives a natural-looking, slightly matte look and never looks orange or dirty. Considering this is only 1/6 of the price of MAC, this is probably the best drugstore bronzer out there. Highly recommended!

For something in between, try

MAC Bronzing Powder ($19.50)
These come in both matte and shimmery colors. I have two of these – Golden Refined, a “finely spun golden with soft pearl finish” and Solar Riche, a “mid-tone brown with slight oranged undertones”. Both look a little dark in the pan but go on semi-sheer with buildable color. They also wear well and give my skin a nice glow but not over-the-top shimmery look.
Overall Rating: B+

The list is always growing so remember to check back regularly for updates!
