M·A·C Prep + Prime Natural Radiance Illuminating Base is a silky gel emulsion that hydrates and primes to improve foundation or powder application, control oil and promote smooth texture.
Housed in a black plastic bottle, the Prep + Prime Natural Radiance Illuminating Base comes with a pump dispenser. You get 50 ml /1.7 oz for $41, which is cheaper than other mid-range brands, including the Smashbox Photo Finish Hydrating Foundation Primer (1 oz for $42) I use and Make Up For Ever Skin Equalizer Primer (1 oz for $37).
Ingredients include:
• Vitamins E and C to protect with antioxidants
• Illuminating pearl powders to reflect optic radiance
• Caffeine to calm your skin
• Silicone-free (great for those who with sensitive or acne-prone skin)
Radiant Pink (featured here) is a light pink for fairer skin tones while Radiant Yellow, a pale yellow, is suited for deeper skin tones. On my NC20 skintone, I could barely tell them apart. Once blended, they disappeared completely into the skin without any color correction.
The gel texture dried down to a weightless finish that is perfect for the summer. Two pumps kept my dehydrated combination skin soft and moisturized all day and helped my makeup glide on much better.
The pink shimmer particles, though a little bigger than expected, were semi-visible upclose. They added a nice glow to my skin but faded once I layered a BB cream or foundation over it.
Overall, MAC Prep + Prime Natural Radiance Illuminating Base did what a basic primer would do. It hydrated and prepped the skin nicely but did not help my makeup last longer. Would I repurchase? Most likely not.
MAC Prep + Prime Natural Radiance Illuminating Base is available at maccosmetics.com, MAC counters and Nordstrom for $41.
