Chic Prints For Nails by Minx Review

June 17, 2010

Over the weekend, I finally tried out the newest Chic Print For Nails by Minx! More pictures and my thoughts after the jump!

Out of the 8 pretty designs, I picked up Lace, which is a gorgeous white base with silver flower designs. Inside the pack are 16 nail patches to fit different nail sizes, which are all too big for my tiny nails.

The instructions were simple and easy to follow:

1) Start with bare nails. Clean with rubbing alcohol.
2) Warm strip by rubbing.
3) Peel off and apply to nail.
4) Smooth and file off excess.
5) Rub to remove bubbles.

Steps 1 through 3 were a no-brainer and the film applied easily and smoothly with no bubbles. However, the filing part was a HUGE challenge for me. I used both a regular and glass file but still could not file off the excess film while keeping the edges smooth. I ended up trimming the excess with a small scissors and spending 30 minutes total, which completely beats the purpose of this being “quick”.

Besides, the film felt thick and looked so fake my guy friend asked if I glued foil onto my nails. Within hours (2 to be exact), the film started peeling around the edges and I had to take everything off by the end of the night.

As much as I loved the idea of the Chic Prints, they did not work out for me – sad!! I will stick with my favorite Incoco Nail Strips and hopefully, they will come up with more designs soon.

Have you tried Chic Prints? Tell us your experience!

Overall Rating:

Chic Prints for Nails is available at Sephora for $15.

Glad you posted a review on these, and pics too! I was going to try these out. Your review just saved me money that I can use for something else.

I’m so glad you posted a review of this, Phyllis! I have the same nail shape/size as you, and I had been wondering how easy it would be to file the nail prints…and I guess it’s not worth the trouble. Thanks for your review- it saved me time & money! 🙂

I’m glad you did a review about this. I saw this at Sephora the other day and was going to buy it for my cousin.

The packaging makes it look so much nicer than it actually is.

I was about to comment that these sounded like Incoco, when I saw that part at the bottom. I have a pack of Incoco strips that I never got around to opening, it’s good to know they work better but yeah I agree that they should come out with some cool designs like this!

This is really cute actually, too bad it’s so hard to file down and doesn’t last very long. I’m oddly really attracted to the super shiny look you can’t really get with normal nail polish so I guess i wouldn’t mind being asked if it was foil 🙂 Thanks for the review anyways, would have been tempted by these otherwise.

I tried these out as well, and here’s a link to a review I posted on my blog. –> http://stealurheartxox.blogspot.com/2010/06/diy-nails-chic-print.html

I too also had a hard time with the filing, but I managed to fit them alright with scissors as you did. I put a topcoat on them just to insure that they wouldn’t fall off and the finish look more real. They stayed on well, and it’s been 4 days so far. Love your blog!!

    Kim,

For some reason, I couldn’t leave a comment on your blog. Anyway, <3 what you did with the Chic Prints (yours look so much better than mine!)

The design is really cute but 15$ for 2-3 days… doesn’t last very long ! I prefer my traditionnal nailpolishes lol.

Such a pity that you did not manage to get a proper look on your nails. These stickers give great hope for a good product but unfortunately it didn’t work. Thanks for checking them out.
