Christi Harris Precision Brow Planing System Review

May 13, 2010

Last month, ShopNBC launched its very first Beauty Discovery Week and showcased 40 new beauty products. I was sent a few of them to try out and my favorite? Christi Harris Precision Brow Planing System.

Christi Harris Precision Brow Planning System

Developed by Texas beauty expert Christi Harris, the Precision Brow Planing System has everything you need to keep those unruly brows in check. It comes in a cute little box which houses a large, round mirror one on one side and a variety of products and tools on the other.

Christi Harris Color Blend Trio, Adda Brow and Diffusing Powder Duo
Color Blend Trio, Adda Brow and Diffusing Powder Duo

The Brow Color Blend Trio contains a shimmery taupe, greyish taupe and dark espresso brown – all with cool undertones. They go on smoothly with good color payoff and staying power. I seldom reach for the lightest color but the other two are perfect for my dark Asian eyebrows.

The Adda Brow is a medium brown brow wax that is so versatile! It goes on very creamy without feeling sticky. I also love how it is pigmented enough to be used alone and it does a great job filling in sparse areas (like the area right by my nose) without looking stiff. Plus you can use it over the brow powders to set them in place. Definitely one of the best out there!

The Diffusing Powder Duo is a light peach paired with a light champagne. Both are finely milled and add just a pop of color with a satin finish. Perfect for highlighting my browbone without being over the top.

Onto the tools!

Christi Harris Contour Brush Designer/Definer Dual Ended Brush Diffuser/Refiner Dual Ended Brush
Contour Brush, Designer/Definer Brush and Diffuser/Refiner Brush

The Contour Brush is a soft, angled brush. I like to use it to apply the Diffusing Powder under the brow bone or to drag the Brow Color down to the nose to create the illusion of a taller nose.

The Designer/Definer Dual Ended Brush comes with an smaller angled brush that works great with the brow powders and a firmer brush on the other end for the brow wax.

The Diffuser/Refiner Dual Ended Brush is a fan brush and a spoolie. While I don’t reach for the fan brush much, I *love* how the spoolie is angled (I’ve always had to bend mine)! It makes blending so easy!

Finally, we have the Precision Brow Planer. For years, I have been using razors to shape my eyebrows, so when I saw this in the set, you could only imagine how happy I was! The long handle makes it very easy to maneuver and while the blade is a lot bigger than the Asian razors that I use, it works very well in removing and shaping hairs without tugging the skin. Loves!

Overall Rating:

The Christi Harris Precision Brow Planing System is now available at shopbc.com for $32.74.

I realize this is an older review, but I agree with the writer on the quality of this product. I’d maybe rate it A-, as I haven’t found anything, overall, that I prefer. I first saw it on Shop NBC, and being Caucasian and in my early sixties, I’d never seen using a razor to shape brows. I had used a razor on my upper lip and eyelids, but I vividly recall my mother, and others, warning me that the hair would grow back darker and thicker. This was never my experience. When I read this review, I was fascinated by the author saying this was similar to the Asian razors she had used. I’d recently found some of those razors on ebay. They haven’t arrived yet. Clearly, using a long handled, lightweight, single edge razor, rather than tweezers, has changed my life. I’m not one for hyperbole but I routinely save a lot of time. I do use it anywhere my face needs it, too. Another thing I like about this brow kit is the three colors, all in one round palette. I almost always mix the browns to get what I like. My hair is now ‘salt and pepper,’ so I like the options. I’ve also used the browns as eye shadow, using the contour brush. It’s pretty saturated, so go easy if you try it. I agree the adda brow is worth the price of admission. I’ve read many reviews of this kit in which women are pleading for them to sell it on its own. Why would they when fools like me keep buying the whole kit? When my adda brow is gone I replace the whole kit, so now I have a backup supply of everything else. Being a makeup junkie, its hard to toss them! Shop NBC is apparently not selling this anymore, but it is available. I just google it and shop for the best price. There is another brow product I like and some days I switch off. It’s Dalton Brow Fix, available at QVC. Plan on having a better quality brush to use, as the one that comes with it is useless.
