Hard Candy Sheer Envy Tinted Moisturizer SPF 15 Review and Swatches

March 12, 2010

Like every other beauty addict, I am always on the hunt for the one product that will make my skin look flawless in the easiest, quickest way and recently, I discovered a gem at my local Wal-mart to achieve just that – Hard Candy Sheer Envy Tinted Moisturizer SPF15!

The Sheer Envy tinted moisturizer is a sheer, lightweight formula with a hint of color you can use in place of foundation for a natural finish and a healthy glowing complexion. Active ingredients include Octinoxate (6%), a common ingredient used to block out UVB rays and Octisalate (4%), for further UVB protection.

The tinted moisturizer comes in a squeezable tube with a super cute design that reminds me of the Kat Von D line at Sephora. The tube may only carry 1.6oz of product but you actually get quite a lot.

There are 5 colors available – Fair, Light, Medium, Tan and Deep – and my NC30 skin falls between Medium and Tan. Although Medium looks like a closer match, it has more pink undertones so I ended up getting Tan, which is slightly darker but more neutral.

Texture-wise, the Sheer Envy is very creamy and goes on smoothly and blends easily. It also feels very moisturizing without being too heavy and dries instantly to a satin finish. The coverage is not at all sheer as the name suggests and it only takes a dime-sized amount to even out my whole face. The result is a natural, glowy look. Since Tan is slightly darker than my original skin tone, it really warms up my skin in a healthy kind of way.

The Sheer Envy also wears very well without fading – even without setting with powder. I have worn this for over 2 weeks now and it has not clogged my pores or caused any breakouts either. The SPF 15 also means double protection which is a plus (remember to never rely solely on makeup for sun protection!)

The only thing I am unsure is the texture. While I am pretty sure the product I got is good, it seems to have separated a little after a week or two. Now the tinted moisturizer comes out either runny or clumpy and I have to shake really well before use.

Another concern I have is the lack of oil-controlling properties. Even on my dehydrated combination skin, my nose tends to get a bit of shine after 7-8 hours. If you have oily skin, you will most likely find it too greasy unless you use a mattifying product underneath (speaking of which, MAC Prep + Prime Skin Refined Zone is perfect for this!)

Overall, this is a great, easy-to-use tinted moisturizer for those lazy days when you want a bit of coverage but don’t want to bother with foundation. I highly recommend it for those with normal to dry skin. Plus it only retails $8 – how can you beat that? Thank you Hard Candy for making such an awesome product!

The Hard Candy Sheer Envy Tinted Moisturizer is now available at your local Walmart for $8.
