L’oreal HiP Studio Secrets Professional High Drama Volumizing Mascara Review

L’oreal HiP Studio Secrets Professional High Drama Volumizing Mascara ($10) may not have received much love from the blogging community, but after I read that Mary J. Blige wore it in the “Just Fine” music video, I decided to give it a shot.

The first thing that I noticed is the long, skinny brush, which is something you don’t see often in volumizing mascaras. It is very easy to maneuver and reaches every single one of my eyelash – including the tiny ones and the roots – very easily without smearing all over. It also works extremely well in lifting my lashes to the point where I feel comfortable not curling them.

The formula itself has a nice creamy consistency and goes on smoothly without too much clumping. My lashes are dramatically lengthened and thickened with just one coat, when normally it would have taken a lengthening mascara topped with a volumizing one for me to achieve the same effect. I also love how you can keep applying to build up the drama without any flaking. Plus the color that I have, Ultimate Black, is an intense black that I *love*!

My only complaint is how non-waterproof this is. While the mascara wears well without flaking or smudging, once it touches water (even if it’s a drop), it becomes runny. If you live in humid areas or tend to sweat easily, stay away from this.

So yes, I might be the minority here but I definitely think this mascara rocks! Here are pictures of me wearing it (I applied two coats without curling my lashes nor using a lash comb).
