How To: Create The Bright Eyed Look

February 3, 2009

On the Spring/Summer Ready To Wear 2009 runway, eyes sparkled in silver and gilded tones everywhere. The look brings a certain innocence and youthfulness to the face and is totally easy to do at home.

Giorgio Armani

Missoni

Versace

To recreate the look, just place a shimmery color on the inner corners of the eyes. You can do this with a dab of cream eyeshadow, an eye pencil or even powder eyeshadow. The key is to figure out what color to use and to do it in moderation.

Cool Vs Warm
Those who have cool undertones or paler skin will rock icy colors like silver or pearly white. A good product is Kevyn Aucoin Liquid Shimmer in White. I know it has been discontinued but if you can find it, definitely get yourself one. An alternative would be MAC Cream Color Base in Pearl.

Those who have warmer or darker skin will glow in shimmery beiges, pale golds and light coppers. Victoria’s Secret Very Sexy Makeup Dazzling Liquid Shadow in Pillow Talk and MAC Glitter Eyeliner in Blitzed are both great for this.

To find out whether you have cool or warm undertones, read How To Determine Your Skin Tone: Warm vs Cool.

My Take

Cool vs Warm

Cool: MAC Knight Divine eyeshadow with Perverted Pearl as a highlighter.
Warm: MAC Firespot eyeshadow with Bagatelle to highlight.

No option for both? I like both on you!

Phyl, you look beautiful in both. I think the copper looks better with lighter hair, so the dark one makes your eyes pop more. I love how you just updated with two eye of the days. I’m still working on that turquoise tutorial of yours! Trying to master blue eyeshadow is fun 🙂

To me, the warm eye makes your eye shape look much larger. Both are gorgeous though.

Thanks ladies =) I personally thought the warm would look better since I have warm undertones but I can see why so many of you like the cool one better
