How To Wear Fuchsia

On The Lips
The easiest way to make a statement with fuchsia is to wear it on the lips. Pair it with a clean face and muted eye makeup for a natural, feminine look like models did at the Diane von Furstenberg Spring 2007 show or dial up the drama with smoky eyes like I did on the right.

Product Recs
Since fuchsia is a bright color, you want to choose a formula that is matte or satiny. Super bright glossy lips will look pretty in magazines but it can be a little too overwhelming for everyday wear.

* MAC Girl About Town Lipstick (the color I’m wearing in the picture above)
* Estee Lauder Signature Hydra Lustre Lipstick in Rich Berry
* YSL Rouge Volupté in Rose Culte

On The Eyes
Wearing fuchsia on the eyes may sound intimidating but it is a lot easier than you think. Simply pick a color with cool undertones and just do a wash. Remember to line your eyes, apply mascara and a highlighting color under the brow bone to avoid looking like you got rabbit eyes. Alternatively, add a darker color like black on the outer corner and blend up onto the crease for the perfect punk look.

Product Recs

* MAC Fuchsia Pigment
* MAC Pink Pearl Pigment
* Urban Decay Deluxe Eyeshadow in Sting (pictured above)

On The Nails
If you are more color-shy, you can always try a fuchsia nail polish. It works on pretty much all skin tones and you don’t have to be a pro to apply it well. Just make sure you wear a base coat and a top coat. There is nothing worse than bright nail polish that is chipped.

    hey there!

    happy new year phyllis! as always, thanks for the tips! out of the 3 recommendations for the fuschia lipsticks, which one do you think is best suited for asian skin (specifically, lighter asian skin). I was also wondering if you are still selling BB mushroom cream. If so, please let me know the cost/details for ordering.

    Take care,

    Hi Tina,

    I personally loved the MAC Girl About Town Lipstick (the one I’m wearing in the picture). It might look really bright in the tube but trust me, it looks awesome against black hair. If you are not used to wearing bright lipstick, you can always start out with a sheer layer of color by painting it on with a brush and building up the color gradually.

    If you’re interested in ordering the bb creams, email me at makeup_forlife@yahoo.com.
