Paris Fashion Week: Spring 2009 Haute Couture Makeup Breakdown

January 29, 2009

Here are some of the latest looks from the Paris Fashion Week Haute Couture S/S 2009. Is it me or are the Christian Dior and JPG looks very similar to those from the Fall 2008 Haute Couture fashion shows?

Christian Dior
Similar to what we saw at the Fall 2008 show, this look is all about bright solid colors smeared around the eyes and winged black eyeliner – but with a kick. A solid black line was added on the outer corner of the lower eye, the lips are no longer muted but painted with a bright red and the brow bone, bridge of the nose, chin, cheekbones and cupid’s bow are all highlighted with a super frosty silver color. One word – fierce!

Christian Lacriox
I am liking this look *so* much more than the one from last season! To recreate the eyes, you need a shimmery golden beige eyeshadow on the eyelid and inner corners with a rich bronze on the crease, heavy black liquid eyeliner winged all the way out on the top and halfway at the bottom. For the lips, just slick on a glossy lip balm or a rosy lipstick for a bit more color.

Jean Paul Gaultier
JPG’s doing crazy graphic eyeliner again this season but this time, it extends to the bottom. The trick is to draw the line on with a pencil before going over it with a black liquid liner/gel liner for maximum staying power. With super dramatic eyes like this, remember to keep the rest of your face as simple as possible.

Valentino
This is definitely my favorite look! The Valentino models strutted in an elegant collection of dresses and suits with tied back hair, nude lips and heavy metallic eyes in silver, burgundy, emerald green, olive and navy. Totally hot!

To copy the eyes we see here, use a super metallic color on the eyelid (MAC’s pigments are great for this!) and blend a darker color on the crease in an outward motion for a cat eye look. Rim the upper and lower lash lines with a black pencil, highlight the brow bone with a shimmery shade and apply several coats of mascara to complete the look. Since the focus is on the eyes, keep the rest of your face polished with minimal blush and a nude gloss on the lips.

I like the Valentino too, it’s the most practical/wearable for normal ppl 😉 Could you please do a face of the day? I love those!

I love the Lacroix look – especially the earrings, they’re outrageous 🙂

I love the Lacroix too. Maybe the eyes wouldn’t work out for ya know, everyday wear, but the highlighting and cheeks are amazing.

Too much for daytime, but great for a big night.
