My Top 10 Beauty Must-Haves

August 18, 2008

Since some of you requested to see my top beauty must-haves, I have picked out ten products that I cannot live without.

Clockwise starting from the top:

* MAC Fluidline in Blacktrack ($15)
This “solid flat black” goes with everything, stays on forever and is super easy to use. Loves it!

* Ardell False Lashes ($3-5)
I am in *love* with these lashes! I wear them almost every day and my favorite ones are #110, #131 and #116.

* Shiseido Eyelash Curler ($17.50)
I have been using this for over 10 years now and it is still my favorite!

* Bobbi Brown Lip Balm in Yogi Bare ($18)
My lips are chapped all year round and this is the only lip balm that keeps them moisturized.

* Skin Food Mushroom BB Cream ($40)
I have completely replaced my foundation with this. Nuff said!

* MAC Prep + Prime Face Protect SPF50 ($28)
This is hands down the best primer for me. It feels very moisturizing and the high SPF also means I get to skip sunscreen. I wear it with or without makeup.

* NARS Aqua Gel Hydrator ($72)
Moisturizing is a big thing for me and this *always* keeps my dehydrated combination skin hydrated and soft.

* Kose Softymo Deep Cleansing Oil ($15)
This takes everything off in seconds and never leaves an oily residue behind.

* MAC Makeup Brushes ($17 – $45)
Wanna know the secret to perfect blending? MAC brushes! My favorites are the #239 Eye Shading Brush, #219 Pencil Brush, #224 Tapered Blending Brush and #187 Stippling Brush.

* MAC Eyeshadows ($14)
I have a ton of these and I love love love the wide variety of colors and textures.

    ooh wow Phyllis! Thx for posting this! Will you be doing another custom purchase for the BB creams anytime soon? I know you said that they have a yellowish base, but what if you have a more pink base, but fair skin overall, would they still work with your skin then? I would order the Mushroom Multi-care if I knew it would blend well with my skin. Besides that, the Shiseido Eyelash Curler does rock, and I ordered the #239 brush last week, so hopefully that will help out with my blending issues. Thx again for the post!

    Hey there,

    Just thought I’d leave you a message and thank you for your post on the Maybelline Colossal mascara AND the Rimmel Glam Eyes mascara. I actually like them very much! And *sigh* the packaging on the Rimmel Glam Eyes is so snazzy, love it! So again, thanks!

    And keep blogging, I love your insights on all the products you write about!

    Nice topic! I’d have to agree with you on the MAC primer. My makeup pretty much lasts for hours with it on.

    I was wondering, is the Kose Softymo Deep Cleansing Oil sold here in the U.S.? Thanks, Phyllis!

    this is really cool phyllis! and i’m such an avid reader of your blog! i was just wondering, could you recommend a good preventive product for aging? i’m in my early 20s but i heard antioxidants can help with free radical damage. i don’t want to spend too much money so i was wondering what eye cream or antioxidant product you use (if any)…

    thanks!!

    hey phyllis: constructive comment– i loved reading your top faves.. how about a fave of the week? do a series featuring an item that you are absolutely loving this week??? it could be polish, a lipstick, a hair pin anything! keep up the great work chica 😉

    Yes, Skinfood Mushroom BB cream is one of the inventions of the century. I must try MAC blacktrack gel eyeliner–because I didn’t like Bobbi Brown’s gel eyeliner at all (has no staying power on my lids).

    i’m so glad i saw that you like fluidline in blacktrack!! now i know i made a good decision in buying it:D
    i was wondering though, do you have any recommendations for products that would help even out my skin tone? products that get rid of freckles and such. ive had a lot of sun damage so ive also got freckles everywhere and would like to be able to look decent without foundation. thanks so much!

    I have to agree with most of your list, and it seems we have similar skin. My lips are always chapped too (I always have to apply something on it), so thanks for the bobbi brown tip!

    Thanks for this post! I have recently started using BB Cream and LOVE it. I would never have discovered it if it wasn’t for your recommendation. I have also recently switched to using the Shiseido curler and love it too! I will have to try your brush recommendations next. I think it is so great that you really take into account what your readers are interested in and are so open to comments and suggestions. Your blog is awesome and interactive and a daily must read for me!
