Bobbi Brown Fall 2008 Mauve Collection Reviews

July 11, 2008

Infused with hints of purple, grey and brown, Bobbi Brown’s Fall 2008 Mauve collection is inspired by vintage and definitely one of the prettiest fall collections out there.

Mauve Face Palette ($55.00)
This new, limited edition palette is packed with cool, neutral shades for the eyes, lips and cheeks and is universally flattering for all skin tones. There are three eyeshadows (Navajo, Vintage and Chocolate Mauve), one blush (Mauve), one creamy lip color (Dusty Mauve), one lip sheer (Mauve) and one lip color (Vintage Mauve) – all the colors you need to look polished without too over the top for fall. According to the ma, this will be Bobbi’s last palette that comes with colors for the eyes, lips and cheeks – all future palettes will come empty so you can customize your own colors.

All the eyeshadows are very soft and silky in terms of texture and go really well with each other. The pigmentation is rather weak compared to MAC eyeshadows but you can definitely layer for more intensity. The blush is a gorgeous soft mauve color that is great for fall and again, tends to be on the sheer side. The lip colors are perfect for the palette but slightly too muted and dark for my taste.

Mini Brush Set ($55.00)
This new mini brush set comes with a soft black nylon case and is made with professional-quality brush heads and convenient mini handles. It features a blush brush, shadow brush and liner brush that would be perfect for the Mauve Face Palette.

Lip Color in Pale Mauve and Heather Mauve ($22.00)
These are both new colors. Pale Mauve is a really pretty cool-toned pink that I got and *love* while Heather Mauve is a more sophisticated toffee color.

Shimmer Lip Gloss in Black Pearl, Lip Gloss in Mauve and Shimmer Lip Gloss in Iced Mauve ($19.00)
These are all beautiful, muted colors. My favorite is the Mauve Lip Gloss.

Black Mauve Shimmer Ink Long-Wear Gel Eyeliner ($19.00)
Described as a “black mauve infused with bronze and gold pearl”, this is a new, limited edition color. It is a very pretty dark taupe with micro-shimmer and a great substitute to the regular black and brown eyeliners. I ended up getting this as well.

My friend designed the logo for me and I use CSS for my template.

I’m not Taiwanese (I’m originally from Hong Kong) and I just went home for 3 weeks last year.

I love Bobbi Brown cosmetics. Her colors are so wearable and the packaging is simple and solid. These colors looks like they are made for the daytime. What kind of look can be created for night using this palette?

    Hey Phyllis!

    My first post 🙂

Bobbi Brown is very soft and natural, but I think it’s too muted for our tastes, like you said. All the colors are mauvy and earthy — however, they lack the shimmer and the umph that MAC and Shu Uemura have.

I really like their nude gloss colors, however, their brushes from the tube tend to get ratty very quickly, so they stick out all over the place.

If you have any connections to BB, let them know they should change that packaging Phyllis!

btw — I think you do an amazing job on this site, and you’re gorgeous. Usually, I’d mind others picking out my make up colors, but if you pick out mine, i’d be honored!

    Melanie,

The easiest way to glam up a day look is simply to add in more eyeliner or darken your eyeshadow.

You can try using a black eyeliner to fill in your entire eyelids then blending the Vintage and Chocolate Mauve eyeshadows on top. To see how this trick works, check out this old entry:

Actually, this palette works really well for me. I love how the colours all work together, but I have to say that I don’t find this palette summery at all. It’s just a little too dark…I’ll definitely save it for the fall though.

I like the fact that BB always manages to keep her own world–of practical makeup that works for everybody–, not swayed by flashy trends which just come and go.
