MAC N Collection Reviews & Haul Pictures

January 13, 2008

I was never really a “nude” girl but lately I have been obsessed with nude colors and I am so glad that MAC came out with this! This is the BEST nude collection ever and damn MAC for making everything limited edition!!

Mineralize Skinfinish – Natural ($24.50)
These are basically repromotes of the ones that were released last year. They are baked face powders with minerals to provide “a dimensional yet natural-matte finish”. They do not offer a lot of coverage and can be used to set and fix foundation or for touch-ups.

When they were first released, I could not find a color that matched me so I passed on them. This time, additional shades are added and Medium Plus is a perfect match for me.

The MSF Natural is very finely milled and goes on super soft without accentuating any dry patches or adding a lot of color. My skin just looks radiant when I use this and I highly suggest using MAC #187 Stippling brush or a Kabuki brush to apply this. If you have oily skin, this product will NOT keep shine at bay – try MAC Blot for that. It differs slightly from my favorite MAC Select Sheer Pressed Powder in terms of its finish. The MSF Natural provides less coverage with a subtle glow while the Select Sheer provides a slightly heavier coverage with a soft matte finish.

* Light – Medium Pale golden beige
* Medium Plus – Tan beige
* Medium Deep – Rich golden tan
* Medium – Soft creamy beige
* Medium Dark – Caramel beige
* Dark – Deep caramel

Mineralized Skinfinish ($24.50)
If you are an avid reader of my blog, you will know that I love these and I collect them! *lol* Warmed is a “golden bronze with light yellow gold veining”. It is similar to Shooting Star that I *love* but has extra yellow gold veining. I use this to contour my cheekbones for a bronzed look. The other MSF, Light Flush, is a “flush soft pastel pink with deep bronze veining”. It is also similar to another MSF – Northern Lights – and is more than gorgeous as a blush. Love them both!

Eyeshadow ($14.50)
These come in really versatile colors and the combos you can create with them are endless! Since they come in different formulas, their quality and pigmentation tend to vary a bit. Rich Flesh and Dark Edge are Mattes (least pigmented), whereas Nanogold is a Lustre and the rest are all Satins (most pigmented).

I brought home Modest Tone and Neutral Pink. They both go on with decent pigmentation and make a really pretty nude eye together. I have been wearing Modest Tone on the eyelid and Neutral Pink on the crease for the past two days and I totally love it!

* Nanogold – Sheer Yellow beige with pink pearl
* Modest Tone – Neutral dirty tan
* Neutral Pink – Dirty mid-tone blue pink
* Rich Flesh – Neutral warm brown
* Remotely Grey – Dirty grey brown
* Dark Edge – Dirty chocolate brown

Lipglass ($14)
These are so so so pretty! I snatched 2N and it is the most wearable color out of them all. It is nude but has enough pink so it will not wash you out. If you like nude colors, definitely check them out!

* 1N – Creamy white tan
* 2N -Creamy neutral yellow pink
* 3N – Neutral brown with gold and pink pearl
* 4N – Light chocolate brown with red pearl

Lipstick ($14)
These are my favorite out of the entire collection! I ended up with 2N and 3N which are both beautiful nude pink colors. They are also both Lustres so they are not as dry as other formulas. The rest are really pretty too but slightly too warm for my taste.

* 1N – Light frosted gold with pink pearl
* 2N – Creamy light pink
* 3N – Milky pastel pink
* 4N – Mid-tone creamy brown
* 5N – Plummy sheer brown

Paint Pot ($16.50)
There are 3 new colors in this collection. The only color that I liked was Soft Ochre, which is a shimmery “yellow beige”. This color would work great as a base or a highlighter. The other two – Quite Natural, a “dirty chocolate brown” and Groundwork, a “mid-tone neutral taupe” – were pretty boring to me.

Nail Lacquer ($10)
These are slightly too nude for my taste.

* N Colour – Creamy beige (Cream)
* Naturally – Rich Milk chocolate (Cream)
* Demi-blanc – Gold beige with green pearl (Frost)

    hey phyllis, I was wondering if you could do a post dedicated to your favourite makeup items. for example, your favourite primer, favourite concealor, eyeshadow, etc. ^_^ love your blog btw! I’ve learnt a lot from it.

    Hi Phyllis!

    I love your site! It means a lot to see a site that addresses Asian makeup issues.

    I would love to see you do a tutorial on how to do a slightly simplified version of the look shown in the first picture at the top of this post…I believe it is known as “1N” on the MAC website. I’ve been trying to imitate it but I am such a beginner and it feels so impossible to do!

    I appreciate all of your work!

    hi phyllis, i remember reading one of your entries where you mentioned that the black eye kohl pencil from mac always smudges. i have that too and today i tried tightlining my eyes using that pencil, hoping it wouldn’t smudge, but it did! is there a way to prevent it from smudging? other than using liquid liner on top?

    Hi Phyllis,

    Found your site a while ago, and really like it. Especially because MAC stores have opened in New Zealand, where I live.

    What do you think of MAC Strobe cream? My face often makes me look tired, and I’m looking for ways to brighten it up. I bought a MAC Blush in Style, to try give me some colour. I am an NW20 in Foundation.

    Is there any MAC Products or tips for applying makeup to combat looking tired and stressed?

    hey phyllis,
    i recently purchased the MSF in warmth, and i was wondering, what is the main difference between this product and a bronzer? cause both seem to do the same thing for me.

    i’m waiting for your tutorial for the nude look!!!

    I’m totally obsessed with Neutral Pink, Remotely Grey and dark edge. Believe it or not, I purchased all 3 of these from the MAC store when they were still available and now the Neutral Pink and Dark Edge are 80-85% goone!! I used Neutral Pink on my lids up to my crease, applied Remotely Grey to my crease and outer V area, then used Dark Edge as liner on top and bottom. This look is so beautiful! If anyone has a Neutral Pink, please let me know. I’m just about desperate. Thanks!! Email address: heatherhuber3@gmail.com
