Celebrity Makeup Breakdown: Koda Kumi

October 4, 2006

Katja requested a breakdown of Koda Kumi’s eye makeup in this picture with MAC products. Here’s a similar look from MAC.

Eyes

Using the 222 Brush, wash a layer of Quarry Eye Shadow over the entire eyelid and closely under the lower lashline. To give more depth to the eye, apply Embark Eye Shadow in the outer crease as well as the outer half of the lower lash line. Blend in Carbon Eye Shadow with a 219 Brush in the inner crease, at the top of the outer crease and lightly at the lower lashline. Blending is key to mesh all three shadows together for that smokey effect. Next, use Brownborder Technakohl to line the top lashline, fanning slightly upwards. Line the bottom lashline with the same eye liner without connecting the line at the outer and inner corner of the eye. Smudge the liner slightly. Slather top and bottom lashes with as many layers of Zoomblack Zoomlash mascara as you desire.

Cheeks
With the 192 Brush, smooth on Uncommon Blushcreme on the cheekbones and blend upwards towards the temples.

LipsFor this nude lip, apply Sandy B. Lipstick and top it off with Florabundance Tinted Lipglass.

hey =] thats the exact look i wanted for my homecoming. do you know if mac/any makeup counters in nordstroms do makeup for homecoming? ive always wanted it done, but i dont know if it cost and how to make an appointment and such as. i heard theres sometimes a certain amount of money you have to spend, which i dont mind, but will they do your whole face and exactly what you want?!
if not, im follow your tutorial and do it myself =] thanks <3

Yes I think you either pay $30 or $45 depending on the counter itself and the money is redeemable in products.

Whenever I put on my brown shadow, it doesn’t show up that well at all. It looks so much darker here in the picture… Maybe I should blend in more black? Hm.

phyllis, do you know how mascara differs from one another? i mean, is it the brush or the mascara fluid itself? i kept wondering .. what if you love a brush so much that when you’re done with the tube, you just keep using it for another mascara? any thoughts?

oo thank you so much =]

which brown eyeshadow are you using and is your natural skintone pale/medium/dark?

well I think the brush AND the forumla both matter when it comes to mascaras. I have seen people use brushes that they liked to apply other mascaras. Just make sure you clean and dry the brush thoroughly before dipping it into another tube.

Hey Phyllis, could you write something about touching up makeup? I like powder but it rubs off and I’m never sure when I should reapply. What do you carry around with you during the day? Thanks!!!

    Hey Phyllis!
Nice blog you have here! I’ve been lurking here for a while now and haven’t gotten a chance to comment until now.
Thanks for this Koda Kumi makeup tutorial. I was wondering if you can do a breakdown on the following shot of Mika Nakashima too if it isn’t too much of a hassle for you (I can wait!):

    Hi Phyllis!
I also love your blog! I check up on it almost everyday! I really like how your blogs are asian feature friendly. My question was if you can maybe do a breakdown of Hyori Lee from her Get Ya music video. I really love her makeup in it. Here is a photo from her MV. Thank you so much!

heyy 🙂 its me again haha

i was wondering if you could do a celeb breakdown of tang wei, and female lead of lust caution 😀

she has the looks of a traditional shanghai girl (which i also have haha, like smallish almond eyes, flat nose, full lips)

but I’ve never been able to recreate her looks, and all the other celebs which have HUGE eyes and high noses, their make up looks dont really work on me 🙁

haha i would be infinetely grateful if you would do a breakdown of her make up! cos shes one of the celebs that manage to look gorgeous without looking too caucasian 🙂

    hah yeah, ASIAN/CHINESE PRIDE 😀

    thank you soooooooooo much 🙂
