Mascara Tips: Basic Q & A

February 8, 2006

I have gotten quite a number of questions on mascaras so here are a few Q&A:

Anonymous asked: “Hi, is there a way to prevent mascara from smudging?”

Answer: Of course you can prevent mascara smudges! Here are a few ways that will help:

* Use a waterproof mascara.

* Powder your undereye area especially if you have oily skin around the eye area.

* Curl your lashes so they are less likely to touch the undereye area.

* Skip mascara on your lower lashes.

* Keep your hands off your eyes.

Anonymous asked: “I was just wondering if you ever found an mascara that gives volume, lenghtens, and the curl stays the whole day? Mascaras tend to be just one or another and that really makes me mad T_T. The lancome l’etreme i bought is very disappointing.. the l’oreal featherlash is great for the natural look but i was looking for something that gives volume, length, and keeps the curl at the same time.”

Answer: Sadly, from my past experiences, I have not found a mascara that curls, lengthens and thickens all at the same time. Most mascaras either tend to do one or the other. One trick I learnt from Asian model Ella Koon is to use different mascaras at the same time. What she does is use a mascara for thickening followed by one that lengthens. It does sound like a hassle but trust me, it works. As for lashes that stay curled all day, the simplest way is to have your eyelash curler handy. I always have my Shiseido one in my purse no matter where I go. Before you curl your lashes, blast your curler under a blowdryer for a couple of seconds. Make sure the curler is warm and not hot. Then curl as your lashes as usual – it really makes a difference! You can also use an electric eyelash curler. I have one by National that I picked up at the Tokyo airport and I *love* it!

hey just found ur site and really loving it, im also chinese and often visit hong kong been living in uk all my life. ive found it really hard to curl my eyelashes as there so straight and thick, i have tried numerous eyelash curlers and even have a heated one, eyelash curlers work rubbushly for me, heated eyelash curler works abit and then goes straight. i have my eyelashes permed a cuple of times and works wonders but i dont like the hassle of going to a salon all the time. was wondering if you have the same problem and would still recommend trying the shiseido eyelash curler? or just stick to perming?

mmm Well another tip for not smearing mascara. Take a buisness card and sheild ur upper eye-lid. It will make the mascara go on the card and pull the hair up more =D. mmm here is a example of it :http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M4GVBkicnbU

yess .. that business card tip works good = D

anyways .. i just recently bought a new mascara .. Too Faced Lash Injection .. && it does a pretty good amount of both .. it lengthens && volumizes at the same time = )
I would suggest to use a eyelash curler before applying it for better results.
One downside though, it seems to clump just a little bit .. but otherwise, it `s really good.

Also, would you be able to make an entry on good products to use for clear // smooth skin, less acne, && an even complexion?
Or products to help prevent hair breakage && keep it mosturized ??

    thanks
    i love your sitee

hi. i have always had the problem of not finding a 3 in 1 mascara, but i finally found one! my eye lashes are thick and point straight out. i usually curl them with my shiseido curler (which i love!) and then i use TARTE LIGHTS CAMERA LASHES mascara. it just came out and you can find it in sephora. it keeps the curl ALL day and doesn’t clump. i usually put 2-3 coats depending on the effect i want. good luck!

hey, i’ve tried shu uemera mascara basic and it really keeps your eyelashes curled! that’s after curling your eyelashes of course. after trying it for the first time at the counter, many people thought i had falsies on because my lashes were so long! definitely check that out. i used to have a shiseido eyelash curler too but after trying shu uemera i’ve stuck to it.

Hello. I saw that you listed a few reviews on mascaras, and I noticed there were a few that you liked. I’d like to ask: which one out of all of those is your favorite most of all?
