How To: Choose The Right Blush Based On Your Eye Color

March 26, 2010

While blush might not be many’s must-have product, its importance is undeniable. Using the right blush can instantly revive a dull complexion, define your cheekbones and make a whole lot of difference in your look. Up until now, we have always been told that the perfect shade should match the color of your cheeks when your skin is flushed. But believe it or not, you can find the perfect shade based on your eye color. Want to know how? Simply check out these tips by national education manager for Make Up For Ever, Erin McCarthy, from the April issue of Women’s Health magazine.

Blue Eyes
Peach or icy pink draws attention to light eyes. Avoid plum – rather than enhancing your eyes, it minimizes them.

Green Eyes
Go with any shade of pink. “It will make your eyes appear greener and more striking,” McCarthy says. Stay away from deep plum – it neutralizes the yellow flecks.

Brown Eyes
Try berry hues. Dark eyes often have hints of yellow in them, so they pop against pinkish plums. Avoid neutrals or browns, which tend to blend into the yellow undertones of your eyes, leaving you looking drab.

Hazel Eyes
A pink with violet undertones, like mauve, plays up the iris’s mix of green, charcoal, and amber. Do not use orangy pinks as “they dull the base color of gray in hazel,” says celebrity makeup artist Jim Crawford.

    Kristy & Grace,

Berry hues are warmer, reddish colors (picture strawberries/raspberries). One that I love on my NC30 skin is NARS Dolce Vita Blush.

What about blue/green eyes? Any suggestions would be helpful some days there green, some days there blue and sometimes one eye is a little green and the other blue?

I never thought of the eye color would matter to the blushers which we use… thanks for the sharing… may I ask what does the administrator and other members think of “NARS Orgasm” being applied on asians? From my own observation and hearing the reputation of this tone is very easy to be applied on most south-east asians? I have been lookin for inspirations in this website also, and currently found ur resource has been useful to other youtube users which I hope to share too

    Kelly,

For blue/green eyes, I’d stick with cool-toned pinks and avoid plums.

When it comes to my blush, I don’t go by eye color. I go by my natural lip color. I’ll ex-foliate my lips and gently suck on my bottom lip to get my 3-4 main shades. The color of my lips flushed will tell me exactly which shades I need for a natural looking blush for my cheeks, then I’ll darken it up 2 shades for more dramatic looks. And because I’m a neutral skin tone, I’ll go for either a blue or red base, depending on if I’m wearing gold or silver jewelry.
