MAC New View Collection Mineralize Skinfinish Duo Reviews

July 13, 2008

With the latest MAC New View Collection, we have 5 new and limited edition Mineralize Skinfinish Duos

Each duo contains 2 different shades – a natural shade with a matte finish and a coordinating shimmery shade to highlight. Like all of MAC Mineralize products, they are baked powders with minerals.

Light Medium Natural and Shimmer – Pale golden beige/Warm yellow beige
Medium Natural and Shimmer – Soft creamy beige/Light peachy pink
Medium Dark Natural and Shimmer – Caramel/Light tan
Dark Natural and Shimmer – Deep caramel/Mid-tone yellow gold
Deep Dark Natural and Shimmer – Rich golden bronze/Deep copper bronze

The natural side is basically the regular Mineralize Skinfinish Natural. It did not offer a lot of coverage and can be used to set and fix foundation or for touch-ups. It was very finely milled and applied super soft without accentuating any dry patches or adding a lot of color, giving my skin a radiant look. If you have oily skin, this product will NOT keep shine at bay – try MAC Blot for that.

As for the shimmery side, it was just like a Mineralize Skinfinish. Not only did some of the colors resemble the existing Mineralize Skinfinishes, they appled the same too.

MAC New View Collection Mineralize Skinfinish Duo is available at MAC counters and maccosmetics.com for $26.50.

Will these be any good for contouring, or will they be too sheer? They remind me of Benefit 10, which is a super convenient product.

These look pretty nice, I might have to go and pick up one myself.

Elana, the natural side is sheer but the shimmery side isn’t. You can definitely use it as a highlighter.

Do you think the brush that came out with this collection (#189 brush) is the best brush for applying this if you want to use it as light foundation? Or would a powder brush be a better option?

    Christie,

The MSF naturals are not meant to be used as a foundation. As I stated on the entry, they do not offer a lot of coverage and are used mostly to set and fix foundation or for touch-ups.

I don’t think the new brush (#189) is necessarily the best brush to apply the MSF naturals. I normally use a kabuki brush to buff the msf natural onto my skin and it works perfectly fine for me.

The #189 is basically a rounded synthetic face brush and you can use it for foundation, with cream products and powders. The bristles are really soft but that’s pretty much it – it applies the same as other powder/kabuki brushes.

Ok thanks! I’ve just ordered it and i probably will see myself using it more for touch ups and the sort. I do have a kabuki brush and so I passed on the 189 brush. We’ll see how it works out. Thanks again for you reply. =)

Although MAC makes such pretty makeup products, I haven’t had much luck with most of their stuff because everything breaks me out! Oily skin is a curse, but thanks for the heads up!

I have this in medium natural/shimmer and absolutely love it! I also love the shimmer as an all over eyeshadow or just a highlight.
