Makeup Tutorial: Turquoise Smoky Eye Makeup Look

I know you guys love step-by-step makeup tutorials so here is a smoky look using a blend of turquoise and brass. Perfect if you are looking for a bit of color for spring!

Step 1. Using a synthetic brush like MAC #252 Larger Shader Brush, apply MAC Fluidline in Delphic over the eyelid as a base.

Step 2. Darken the crease with the right side of NARS Dogon Eyeshadow.

Step 3. Fluff out the edges with MAC 226 Smaller Tapered Blending Brush.

Step 4. Apply the brassy color (left side) of NARS Paramaribo Duo Eyeshadow onto the inner 1/3 of the eyelid.

Step 5. Pat MAC Aquadisiac Eyeshadow onto the center of the eyelid and blend back and forth so there is a slight gradation.

Step 6. Using CoverGirl Vivid Impact Eyeliner in Midnight, draw a line along the upper and lower lashlines.

Step 7. Smudge out the lines with the smudger tip for a softer look.

Step 8. Highlight the brow bone with MAC Pollen Eyeshadow.

Step 9. Curl lashes, apply mascara and fake lashes. Re-line the eyes with the pencil eyeliner.

Step 10. Finish with a dab of the brassy color onto the tear duct and pair with a hot pink gloss like the Milani Haute Flash Shimmer Lipgloss in Flash. Done!

2011 Teen Choice Awards Beauty Breakdown: Taylor Swift

With a “summery, youthful look” in mind, makeup artist Lorrie Turk gave Taylor Swift a pop of turquoise on the eyes and coral lips at the 2011 Teen Choice Awards last night.

Skin
For Taylor’s young and radiant glow, CoverGirl NatureLuxe Silk Foundation was used on the skin along with a peachy blush.

Eyes
To make Taylor’s eyes pop, Lorrie started by brushing on CoverGirl Eye Enhancers 1-Kit Shadows in Turquoise Tempest #435, then with CoverGirl Exact Eyelights Eye-Brightening Eyeliner in Radiant Sapphire #710. She finished the eyes with CoverGirl NatureLuxe Mousse Mascara in Very Black #500.

Lips
Lorrie created a more muted lip with CoverGirl LipPerfection Lipcolor in Rapture #280 to balance the bold color used on Taylor’s eyes.

Makeover With Christopher Kam At Lane Crawford Backstage Beauty Bar

Last Sunday, I was very honored to meet Paris-based makeup artist Christopher Kam at the Backstage Beauty event at Lane Crawford, Hong Kong. Christopher is a regular at Paris and London Fashion Weeks and works frequently with all of the top shots like Aaron de Mey and Charlotte Tilbury.

For my makeover, Christopher used some of the latest Fall launches (hello my newly beloved Benefit Girl Meets Pearl and NARS Pure Matte Lipsticks!) to give me a gorgeous smoky eye with a soft lip (thanks Christopher – you’re the BEST!)

And a few beauty tips for you ladies:

* Never ever rub your eyes. To remove the most stubborn eye makeup, soak a cotton pad with a dual-phase eye makeup remover for at least 30 seconds.

* To go from runway to realway, stick to the same techniques but use earthy tones to make it more wearable.

* To combat puffy eyes, sweep a light color all over the eyelid and a darker color on the crease – sounds cliched but it works!

* When it comes to blending, it is all about practice. Make sure you use a fluffy brush and blend with the tip in a feathery, windshield motion.

What I Used

Step by Step How To

1. Apply Make Up For Ever HD Invisible Cover Foundation with MAC #109 Brush in a buffing motion.

2. Fill in eyebrows with Stila Espresso.

3. Prep the eyelid with Lumene Eye Makeup Base.

4. Using MAC #239 Brush, layer the foamy green shade (3rd from the left on bottom row) and teal shade (3rd from the left on top row) from the Sleek palette on the inner half of the eyelid. Apply the dark blue color (3rd from the right on bottom row) on the outer half of the eyelid. Blend until there are no harsh lines.

5. Rim the eyes with Blacktrack.

6. Soften the line on the lower lid by applying the dark blue color on the outer corner and the foamy green color on the inner.

7. Apply fake lashes on top.

8. Make your features pop by applying Comfort MSF along the cheekbones and Perfect Topping MSF along the bridge of nose.

9. Finish with Loud & Lovely Cremesheen Glass on the lips for a luscious look.

Spring 2009 Runway Alert: How To Wear Turquoise Eyeshadow

Spring is the best time to whip out those bright colors that were kept hidden in the drawers after the long cold winter and turquoise is my all-time favorite.

While turquoise looks best against darker skin tones and makes brown eyes pop, it will look good on lighter eyes and paler skin as well. Just make sure you pick one that has a metallic or satiny finish. Matte turquoise can look dated.

How To Wear Turquoise Eyeshadow
The combinations you can create with turquoise is endless. Check out the following pics straight from the runway for ideas.

At the Gucci S/S 2009 show, lead makeup artist Pat McGrath did a bold look with a rich metallic turquoise eyeshadow on the lid blended past the crease, a light green as a highlighter, lots of eyeliner and false lashes. She also highlighted the models’ cheekbones and cupid’s bow and added a soft pink lipgloss on the lips.

Models strutted in bronzed skin with eyebrows that were colored with a matte turquoise color at the MaxMara S/S 2009 show.

For the Emanuel Ungaro S/S 2007 show, turquoise was applied closely to the upper lash line with a warm bronzy gold on the crease and a violet on the lower eye.

Karl Lagerfeld sent his models on the runway with a creamy turquoise around the eyes paired with graphic black eyeliner and barely there lips at his Spring 2007 show.
