How To Wear Fuchsia

On The Lips
The easiest way to make a statement with fuchsia is to wear it on the lips. Pair it with a clean face and muted eye makeup for a natural, feminine look like models did at the Diane von Furstenberg Spring 2007 show or dial up the drama with smoky eyes like I did on the right.

The Mercedes-Benz New York Fashion Week has officially ended last Friday and below are some of the trends spotted on the runway.

Trend 1: Nude Look
Yes the nude look is big again at the Spring 2009 shows. Models at the Marc by Marc Jacobs and MaxAzria shows were spotted with natural-looking skin, minimal eye makeup and barely there lips.

Fresh off the Fall 2008 Couture fashion shows, we are seeing graphic eyeliner everywhere – thick and winged out, on the crease and even under the eye. The look is young, bold and totally now so if you have not mastered the art of lining, you better dig out your eyeliner and start practicing pronto!

Jean Paul Gaultier
This reminds me of a look I did that was inspired by an Accessorize ad with super model Lily Cole. The trick is start out by drawing a line on your crease with a pencil before going over it with a black liquid liner. Keep the rest of your eye bare with just a thin line along your upper lash line and tons of mascara on top and bottom.

Overall Trend (summary from MAC Pro)
This fall, the seventies are back! According to Gordon Espinet and Tom Pecheux, “Seventies clubby” and “Glam rock fantasies” will be the main theme for the eyes. This means lots and lots of rich metallics on the eyelid. Look at celebrity icons like Cher and Diana Ross for ideas on eyeshadows. Eyebrows will be boyish and lashes mascaraless to soften up the look. Skin will be on the light side yet structured. Lips should be matte and drenched in wine shades.

Celebrity hairstylist and founder of Kronos Hair products, Dusty Simington, has a rather interesting beauty philosophy that reminds me of a saying by Helena Rubinstein – “There are no ugly women, only lazy ones.” Dusty believes that “With all that information and technology out there, no one can look bad. People who do are simply stupid.” While some people might find that harsh, I think there is some truth to it.

I met Dusty at the Total Beauty Blog Summit 2008 where he gave us a brief introduction on his upcoming line of hair products and a few pointers for fall hair trends. I also pulled him aside for a quick interview just for you guys!
