Smashbox Camera Ready CC Cream Review and Swatches

June 20, 2013

Besides the OCC Stained Gloss Lip Tars, another winner I brought home from The Makeup Show Chicago 2013 was Smashbox Camera Ready Broad Spectrum SPF 30 Dark Spot Correcting CC Cream.

Similar to BB creams, a CC (short for color-correcting) cream is a tinted face product that is enriched with skincare benefits to even out skintone while improving skin condition. This one from Smashbox touts a formula that contains Octinoxate 7.5%, Octisalate 4.0%, Oxybenzone 2.5% and Titanium Dioxide 1.1% for sun protection and a blend of ingredients (Licorice Root Extract and Wheat Germ Extract to name a couple) to brighten the skin and fade dark spots, sun spots and post-acne marks. It can be worn alone or under foundation for more coverage.

The texture was creamy and a little thicker than a liquid foundation, just like most BB creams. It went on super lightweight and blended easily with both fingers and my favorite Crown Deluxe Double Sided Blender. Coverage was buildable and ran from light to medium. A light layer managed to cover up 2/3 of my imperfections and left behind a soft matte finish that felt and looked just like skin. I did, however, notice that it clung onto dry patches so make sure you exfoliate and moisturize well before hand. When worn without a setting powder on top, I also experienced a bit of shine on the T-zone after 4-5 hours.

Color selection wise, this was much better than your typical Asian BB cream which tends to only come in one or two shades. There are a total of 5 shades to choose from and the second lightest shade, Light, was a good match for my NC30 skin.

As for its skincare claims, I have yet to see any results (I have only been using the product for two weeks). However, the product has not broken me out or irritated my skin either.

I can’t bring myself to try anything that says CC cream on it — the name just screams “we are full of crap” and I can’t get past that, even if the product reviews are great.

Awww is there a reason why you don’t like CC creams?
