Runway Hair & Makeup: Gilded Eye and Braided Updos at Marchesa Fall 2012

To complement the vision of angelic romance at Marchesa A/W 2012 collection, Laura Mercier makeup artist Talia Shobrook created gilded eyes with luminous skin while Frederic Fekkai Lead Stylist Renato Campora gave models a braided updo.

Face
Talia stated “iridescent, porcelain skin was the foundation of the look and evoked the untouched perfection of angels.” She first moisturized the skin with Laura Mercier Mega-Moisturizer Crème. She then applied a mixture of Laura Mercier Hydrating Foundation Primer and Laura Mercier Foundation Primer Radiance to the entire face to give it an iridescent base. Next, she used Laura Mercier Silk Crème Foundation to lend the skin a porcelain, marbleized look. Lastly, she highlighted the face with the mixture of Laura Mercier Hydrating Foundation Primer and Laura Mercier Foundation Primer Radiance to give it luminosity.

Eyes
According to Talia, “the ethereal eye lent an incandescent glow to the entire look.” She first applied Laura Mercier Eye Canvas to the lid to set a base. Next, she applied the Laura Mercier Illuminating Eye Colour in Gilded Moonshine (available Fall 2012) as a liner around the entire edge of the eye. Laura Mercier Center Faux Lashes were used to give the eye a rounded shape. Talia finished by applying several coats of Laura Mercier Full Blown Volume Lash Building Mascara.

Lips
Talia then “applied a cherubic lip, with a stained effect to modernize the look.” She mixed Laura Mercier Crème Smooth Lip Colour in Merlot and Laura Mercier Crème Smooth Lip Colour in Haute Red (available Fall 2012) and applied to the center of the mouth. Then she pressed in the color with her fingertips to allow the pigment to bleed outwards.

Hair
Prep hair with product, depending on hair type:

· For thin hair, start with Fekkai Coiff Bouffant Lifting & Texturizing Spray Gel to add weight

· For think or tangled hair, start with Fekkai Silky Straight Ironless Smooth Finish Serum to prevent frizz

· For curly hair, use Fekkai Perfectly Luscious Curls Curl Shaper Cream, to add texture

· For dry hair, apply Fekkai Coiff Nonchalant Piecing & Forming Wax to add moisture and shine

After prepping hair with appropriate product, take ½ -inch sections from the crown of the head and create flat braids down the back of the head. After braiding all of the hair, take longer braids and wrap them around the back of the head, blending and securing ends with hair pins. Leave a few pieces of hair loose in the front to create movement and soften the look. To finish the look use Fekkai Coiff Sheer Hold Hairspray.

At Alice + Olivia A/W 2012, Stila Cosmetics worked with Sebastian Professional to give models a dramatic cat eye with bold lips and loose chignon that is undeniably gorgeous and perfect for fall.

Makeup
Since the focus was on the eyes and lip, Stila’s Sarah Lucero kept the skin dewy with Stay All Day 10-in-1 HD Beauty Balm and left the cheeks bare.

To create the bold cat eyes, Sarah applied Stila Smudge Crayon Waterproof Eye Primer + Shadow + Liner in Black all over the eyelid and rimmed the eyes with Kayal Eye Liner in Onyx. The upper and lower lashes were coated with Stay All Day Waterproof Volumizing Mascara while the brows were kept natural with Stay All Day Waterproof Brow Color.

To finish, Sarah applied a dark red color called Aria onto the lips.

Hair
Sebastian Professional lead stylist Anthony Cole created a swept-back, romantic with an edge hair look spotlighting loosely constructed chignons.

How To
1. On damp hair, apply a palmful of Sebastian Professional Whipped Crème throughout. Then, layer in a palmful of Mousse Forte. This combination will give the hair long-lasting, defrizzed body.

2. Blow-dry smooth using a large round brush. Once dry, divide hair in half horizontally, from recession to the back of the crown. Pin aside the top section and pull the bottom into a tight ponytail at the occipital bone.

3. Twist the ponytail around the base and pin to secure. Spray with Sebastian Professional Shaper hairspray for shape and hold.

4. Take down the top section and create a middle part. Taking one side at a time, smooth back each section to twist and pin around the chignon in the back. Be sure to keep the hair loose in the front so the hairline does not show.

5. Detail random pieces of the chignon with Sebastian Professional Craft Clay for matte hold. Pull pieces from under each top section loose to frame the face.

6. Once in shape, lightly spray Sebastian Professional Trilliant over the finished look for a touch of shimmer and shine.

Hair
As for the hair, a chic, relaxed side bun that was textured, yet feminine was created by TRESemmé Stylist Jeanie Syfu to complement the designer’s collection including a mix of leather, fur, sequins and knits.

How-To Steps
1. Create a deep side part and prep damp hair with TRESemmé 24 Hour Body Root Boosting Spray. Apply throughout hair from roots to ends.

2. Diffuse hair on high heat.

3. Repeat steps 1 & 2 – apply TRESemmé 24 Hour Body Root Boosting Spray from roots to ends and diffuse hair. Be sure to layer the product to create a natural, rough texture.

4. Apply a dime size amount of TRESemmé Smooth & Silky Anti-Frizz Secret Crème throughout hair to give definition.

5. Gather hair into a loose pony on one side, fastening elastic midway down the pony, leaving the heavier side of the face-framing part loose and undone.

6. Twist hair into a messy side bun, fastening with hair pins as you go.

7. Loosely gather pieces from the heavier side of the part and pin into bun.

8. To finish, lightly spritz with TRESemmé 24 Hour Body Finishing Spray.

Halloween Hair Ideas: Ethereal Fairy Braids from Vivienne Westwood Gold Label S/S 2012

The perfect Halloween getup requires the right hair and makeup. If you are dressing up as a fairy or mystical creature this Halloween, try this gorgeous “mystically ethereal” hairstyle created by Pantene Global Stylist Ambassador, Sam McKnight, for the Vivienne Westwood’s S/S 2012 Gold Label show!

Step 1. Start with freshly washed and conditioned hair, using Pantene Pro-V Medium-Thick Hair Solutions Breakage to Strength Shampoo and Conditioner to create the perfect base.

Step 2. Next give your hair a boost by applying the Pantene Pro-V Fine Hair Style Triple Action Volume Mousse throughout. Then blow-dry smooth using a flat bristle brush, concentrating on smoothing the length of the hair with the brush for a soft result.

Step 3. Once completely dry, create a full circle parting round the circumference of the hair line (just a couple of inches in) and let the loose hair fall down and create a ‘veil’ around the hair line.

Step 4.Create 2-3 diagonal partings at random, and secure each section of hair in to a ponytail and secure with a snag-free elastic.

Step 5.Next braid each pony tail and secure at the end. Loosen the braid a little by pulling it slightly apart with your fingers.

Step 6. Loop each braid back on itself and secure against the original ponytail – use hair clips to hold in place if needed.

Step 7. Apply Pantene Pro-V Restore Beautiful Lengths Smoothing Balm to the ends to smooth away any frizz.

Step 8. Finish the style with a generous spray of Pantene Classic Care Hairspray to keep the look in place.

Runway Beauty: Haider Ackermann S/S 2012 Hair and Makeup

At the Haider Ackermann Spring/Summer 2012 show in Paris, makeup artist Stephane Marais used MAC Cosmetics to create glossy, “poetic”, taupe eyes while Eugene Souleiman from Wella Professionals gave models “rebellious” hair.

Makeup

Face
• Face & Body Foundation – lightly applied over hydrated skin to even skintone and perfect.
• MAC Pro Tint Cream Colour Base – blended under cheekbones to sculpt.

Eyes
• Coffee Eye Pencil – applied through both the upper and lower lashline to make lashes appear thicker at their root.
• MAC Pro Concrete and Shale Eye Shadow (taupe-toned eyes) – mixed together to create a customized taupe for eyes, blended around the eyes to emphasize the crease and lower lashline.
• Mulch Eye Shadow (sepia-toned eyes) – layered and blended over coffee pencil to create sepia-toned eyes, emphasizing the crease and lower lashline.
• MAC Pro Medium Blot Powder/Loose – applied under eyebrows and eyes for a matte effect.
• MAC Pro Shine Mixing Medium – applied over eyelids for a shiny, glossy finish to eyes.

Lips
• Lip Conditioner SPF 15 – hydrates and perfects lips with a natural finish.

Hair
“This is a chic, dishevelled, boyish look. I was thinking about the style of a young aristocratic boy who parties a little too hard, and wanted to transfer this look to a beautiful young woman to create a slightly androgynous hairstyle. The key to this style is an illusion of short hair, with a textured ‘foppish’ top. I love the idea of imperfection and wanted the hair to look as if the girl had been partying all night and the roots of her hair were a little unwashed and sweaty, in contrast to the perfectly sleek underneath section. This hair look is all about looking cool with an attitude, it’s tough, contemporary and full of character; rather like the Haider Ackermann woman”, says Eugene.

Step 1. This look is focused on creating a ‘day old’ hair but with a freshly washed base, so always start with freshly washed and conditioned hair. Use Wella Professionals Enrich Shampoo and Conditioner.

Step 2. Roughly dry the hair, keeping it as flat as possible, if hair is very textured, use Wella Professionals Velvet Amplifier as a base styling product to smooth out the hair surface and act a as primer for the subsequent styling products.

Step 3. To create the illusion of short hair, you first need to take the underneath hair away, to create a flat and shiny base. Clip the top section of hair out of the way, and start to make a very flat chignon, taking the hair section by section and spraying the roots with Wella Professionals Stay Essential Finishing Spray until they are saturated. Brush this through the hair with a small soft bristle brush; hold the section tight as you go to create tension. Repeat this process, ensuring that each section is sprayed wet as you go (once the hair spray dries it will slightly ‘shrink’ which helps to pull the hair even tighter).

Step 4. When you have all the hair contained in one section, create a chignon by squashing the hair and rolling it back on itself and then pinning the hair into place, but ensure that the top ‘tail’ of the chignon remains free as this will form part of the top look. The chignon must be as flat to the head as possible.

Step 5. Release the top section of hair and tease towards the front of the head, clipping into place as you go. Spray Wella Professionals Create Character Texturizing Spray in to the roots and rub it` in with finger tips to loosen the hairstyle and to create a different texture.

Step 6.Fold the front piece of hair back on itself and pin down roughly, spritz liberally with Wella Professionals Ocean Spritz Beach Texture Spray to create a slightly rougher texture to the hair and give it some ‘bite’.

Step 7.Using a hairdryer with a diffuser attachment, apply heat lightly over the entire head to set the style in place.

Step 8.Finally, pick out end sections from the top and use straightening irons to clamp the ends to create separation and give a ‘piecey’ finish.
