NARS 413 BLKR Larger Than Life Lip Gloss Review, Swatches and Photos

During a quick trip to NYC, I finally paid homage to my favorite makeup brand and stopped by the world’s one-and-only NARS Boutique. The cute little store is located in Manhattan’s West Village on 413 Bleecker Street, just a minute away from the famed apartment of Sex And The City’s Carrie Bradshaw. As a souvenir, I left with the exclusive 413 BLKR Larger Than Life Lip Gloss.

Just like the NARS x Lady Gaga Born This Way Larger Than Life Lip Gloss, 413 BLKR comes in a non-sticky, semi-moisturizing formula with great pigmentation and excellent wearing power. The color is a gorgeous bright red that can instantly polish up any look. I love pairing it with a clean face and winged eyeliner and I always get SO many compliments wearing it.

I also thought the applicator was better than the Gaga gloss. The bristles were much softer right off the bat and simply great for application. All I do is swipe it over my lips once, add a bit of MAC Cherry Lip Pencil here and there and bam! Hot red lips with lots of shine!

Runway Makeup: Bleached Brows and Bordeaux Lips at Gucci Fall 2012

Pat McGrath brings bleached brows back at Gucci A/W 2012 for a dark, romantic look. To complement the blocked-out arches, Pat contoured the eyes with a wash of shadow and created a vampy lip with deep wine liner and a bright red color with gloss in the center.

Runway Makeup: Hard-edged Glamour at The Blonds Fall 2012

At The Blonds Fall A/W 2012, makeup artist Kabuki working for MAC Cosmetics gave models “tough, hard-edged glamour” with winged out cat eyes in green and gold paired with red lips. So bold and fierce!

Face
* Studio Sculpt SPF 15 Foundation — blended over hydrated skin to perfect
* MAC Pro Sculpt Sculpting Powder Pro Palette — blended under cheekbones to contour
* Well Dressed Powder Blush — swept above contour for a bit of colour
* Vanilla Pigment — swept over high planes to highlight

Eyes
* Smolder Eye Kohl — applied to create cat-eye shape around eyes
* Pure Show Superslick Eye Liner — applied snug to the waterline of lower lashes
* Carbon Eye Shadow — blended over Smolder to set and diffuse through the upper eyelid, crease and also through lower lid and lashes
* Club Eye Shadow — applied over the centre of the eyelid, as well as both inner and outer corners of eyes
* 7 Lash — one full band applied through the upper lashes, with the addition of a second pair’s trimmed inner corner, placed on the outer corners of eyes
* Opulash Optimum Black Mascara — applied through both upper and lower lashes to define

Lips

Runway Makeup: Michael Kors Fall 2012

A “classic, sportif” look with flushed cheeks and bright lips was created by Dick Page, Shiseido Artistic Director, for Michael Kors A/W 2012 collection.

“The connotation of sportif in Europe is energetic and the look is all about the woman who’s living this life, who’s very chic and made of money.”

Face
The Michael Kors face featured a “bloody, wonky flush”. Dick started this look with a clean, well-moisturized base and applied a wash of Radiant Lifting Foundation (launching Fall 2012) to remove any redness or imperfections.

To create a chevron-shaped flush on cheeks, Dick blended Lacquer Rouge in Drama (RD501), a lipstick with concentrated color, onto the apple of the cheek, along with a dab of foundation using a damp Foundation Sponge Puff.

Eyes
The eyes were given a “transparent, easy, flexible” treatment that resulted in a “very chic,” shimmery, wearable look for day or night.

To create weight in the brow, Dick mixed a blend customized to each model’s natural brow color using Shimmering Cream Eye Color in Sable (BR709), Meadow (BE204), Caviar (BK912), and Leather (BR306). Using a shadow fluff brush, Dick blended Luminizing Satin Face Color Soft Beam Gold (BE206) and High Beam White (WT905) and applied the color to the inner corner of the eye, blending out over the entire lid. (Tip: when mixing color, use a bit more of the High Beam White shade to keep the blend bright.) He then curled the lashes to give them a soft, natural bend, walking the curler up the lashes to avoid a “crimped” look, and finished with Perfect Mascara Full Definition in Black (BK901) on just the upper lashes.

Lips
Red lips on the Michael Kors runway felt very “winter,” emulating “après ski and sex” — an approach fitting for the confident Kors woman.

Dick first took down the natural lip color using a bit of foundation. Then he applied Lacquer Rouge in Drama (RD501) to the entire lip in a defined, precise manner. He blotted with tissue and reapplied three times in order to set the color.

Runway Makeup: Imitation by Tara Subkoff Fall 2012

NYX Cosmetics made its debut in Fashion Week with a bold yet distinctly feminine look that consisted of dark brown eyes and matte red lips at Imitation by Tara Subkoff A/W 2012. Keep reading to see how Tina Turnbow, Makeup Artist for NYX Cosmetics, created the look.

Inspiration: “The makeup for the Imitation presentation was inspired by designer, Tara Subkoff’s love of YSL, Helmut Newton and Debbie Harry,” said Tina. “We collaborated together to create a look by NYX Cosmetics that was bold, yet distinctly feminine. I used dark shades of brown and taupe to give the eye dimension and then rimmed with black, kohl liner to enhance it and make it really pop. Because the eyes had a lot of shine and dimension, I wanted to keep the lip matte, but create something slightly different than the flat, bold color we’re seeing all over the runway. Therefore, I used a mixture of rust and grape colors that melded together for a unique finish and then blurred the edges for a modern 70’s feel.

Face
Tina wanted to keep the skin raw and clean so the eyes and lips were the focal point of the face. She prepped the skin with moisturizer to create luminosity and then applied the NYX Cosmetic’s Stay Matte but not Flat Powder Foundation to combat t-zone shine.

Eyes
The eyes were inspired by Helmut Newton and Debbie Harry in the early 70’s. Tina began by creating a deep V on the outer-corner of the eye using the NYX Cosmetics Jumbo Eye Pencil in Chocolate. Using her finger, Tina then blended the NYX Cosmetics Cream Shadow in Chocolate and Suede to frame the middle of the eye and create dimension and shine. To brighten and give the eye luminosity, Tina applied the NYX Cosmetics Jumbo Eye Pencil in French Fries to the inside crease and lower rim. Tina then rimmed the eyes using the NYX Cosmetics Collection Noir Kohl Kajal Black Liner and applied two coats of the NYX Cosmetics’ Boudoir Mascara Collection in La Amoureux to the lashes.

Lips
For the lips, Tina wanted to create a unique take on the bold lip combining the NYX Cosmetics Retractable Lip Liner in Plum with the NYX Cosmetics Matte Lipstick in Alabama to give a matte, two-toned effect. The edges were then blurred to really complete the modern 70’s look of the face. Tina then finished by contouring the cheeks with darker shades of the NYX Cosmetics Stay Matte but not Flat Powder Foundation. The completed look was glam, yet fabulously feminine.
