Rihanna’s Makeup In “Where Have You Been” Music Video

Rihanna‘s latest music video, “Where Have You Been”, finally dropped today and just as expected from the hipster, the makeup and styling was totally fierce! Keep reading to see more looks from the video and some inside scoop from Rihanna’s makeup artist Kabuki.

Since the video was set in the jungle and the desert, Kabuki went for a look that consisted of “smoldering eyes and glowing skin and anything that could reference an animal without being ridiculous.” The end result? Looks that consisted of an ’80s dark, smoky cat eye; metallic red eyeshadow with spiky, brushed-up brows (a trend that is totally hot this spring!) and my favorite, a gold mask made out of Chanel logos, crucifixes and dollar signs nail art pieces glued on with Spirit Gum.

When asked the one product Kabuki couldn’t do without for the video? My favorite Blingtones from myface cosmetics (haha no surprise there!)

Runway Makeup: Red Eyes and Dewy Skin at Donna Karan New York Fall 2012

Working for MAC Cosmetics, Charlotte Tilbury created “a handsome Linda Evangelista” with full brows, a red eye and dewy skin at Donna Karan A/W 2012.

Face
* Complete Comfort Crème – hydrates and rejuvenates skin
* Studio Finish SPF 15 Concealer – lightly blended into skin with 190 Foundation Brush to perfect
* Pure Sculpture Pro Sculpting Cream (available Autumn/Winter 2012) – used with 168 Large Angled Contour Brush to create a contour through the low planes of the face
* Pearl Cream Colour Base – patted over cheekbones to highlight

Eyes
* Diva and Party Line Lips ticks – mixed together and applied to eyelids with 242 Shader Brush and then blended through the crease with a 266 Small Angle Brush
* Fling and Lingering Eye Brows – blended through the brows to create fullness

Lips
* Pearl Cream Colour Base – patted over lips for a soft highlight

Working for NARS Cosmetics, makeup artist Diane Kendal paired tribal eyes with muted lips at the Thakoon Fall 2011 show.

“With Thakoon’s references to this idea of tribal opulence, I felt that if we were going to do “color” it would have to be focused on the eye with one central color theme, and nothing else. There was a lot of youth in the group of models, so we wanted to keep the look very fresh. Red was a natural choice, complimenting the use of color throughout the collection.”

Revlon’s Global Artistic Director, Gucci Westman, paired a smoky eye with sun-burnt skin at the Rag & Bone Fall 2011 Collection, bringing forth the designer’s vision of an urban Eskimo.

“The look is about a nomadic traveler. She’s an effortless Eskimo,” says Westman. “I created a smoky coal-hued eye and a sun burnt look to the skin.”

Spring 2011 Beauty Trend Report: Colorful Eyes

Besides shocking neon lips, we are seeing lots of colors on the eyes this spring. At Alberta Ferretti and Aquilano.Rimondi, washes of soft greens covered the upper and lower lid while a richer, bolder green was used at Oscar de la Renta and Loewe.

From the blocks of periwinkle at Victoria Beckham to the smoked-out lavender eye at Etro and winged-out purple smoky eye at Jason Wu, purple was also spotted regularly on the runway.

Last but not least, we have red again. But unlike the red eyeshadow we saw last Fall, this time it comes in softer, more wearable hues of orange, coral and ruby, as seen at Carolina Herrera, Derek Lam and Narciso Rodriguez.

Tips On Rocking The Look

* Always pair super colorful eyes with relatively muted lips and clean skin for a fool-proof look.

* Those who are color-shy can line the eyes with a pop of color instead of wearing it all over the eyelid.

* Bright colors in matte formulas give the most impact while shimmery and satin formulas are easier to carry.
