Working for NARS Cosmetics, makeup artist Diane Kendal paired tribal eyes with muted lips at the Thakoon Fall 2011 show.

“With Thakoon’s references to this idea of tribal opulence, I felt that if we were going to do “color” it would have to be focused on the eye with one central color theme, and nothing else. There was a lot of youth in the group of models, so we wanted to keep the look very fresh. Red was a natural choice, complimenting the use of color throughout the collection.”

Revlon’s Global Artistic Director, Gucci Westman, paired a smoky eye with sun-burnt skin at the Rag & Bone Fall 2011 Collection, bringing forth the designer’s vision of an urban Eskimo.

“The look is about a nomadic traveler. She’s an effortless Eskimo,” says Westman. “I created a smoky coal-hued eye and a sun burnt look to the skin.”

Spring 2011 Beauty Trend Report: Colorful Eyes

Besides shocking neon lips, we are seeing lots of colors on the eyes this spring. At Alberta Ferretti and Aquilano.Rimondi, washes of soft greens covered the upper and lower lid while a richer, bolder green was used at Oscar de la Renta and Loewe.

From the blocks of periwinkle at Victoria Beckham to the smoked-out lavender eye at Etro and winged-out purple smoky eye at Jason Wu, purple was also spotted regularly on the runway.

Last but not least, we have red again. But unlike the red eyeshadow we saw last Fall, this time it comes in softer, more wearable hues of orange, coral and ruby, as seen at Carolina Herrera, Derek Lam and Narciso Rodriguez.

Tips On Rocking The Look

* Always pair super colorful eyes with relatively muted lips and clean skin for a fool-proof look.

* Those who are color-shy can line the eyes with a pop of color instead of wearing it all over the eyelid.

* Bright colors in matte formulas give the most impact while shimmery and satin formulas are easier to carry.

Finally got to play with the new MAC Dare To Wear eyeshadows today. More pics after the jump!

The eyeshadows turned out better than I expected and showed up great with a primer and a bit of layering. I’m so glad I finally found Matte eyeshadows from MAC that I liked =)

How To: Wear Red Eyeshadow

First, Francois Nars created a matte brick red color dubbed Grenadines for the NARS Spring 2009 collection. Now, red is splattered all over the A/W 2010 runways. The popularity of red eyeshadow is on the rise and can no longer be ignored! So read on to learn how you too can become a master of the trend!

* Pick the right red. This is key in making the look work. Pale skin can pull off brighter reds while darker skin tones look best in deeper reds like burgundy and maroon.

* Pair it with another color. Throwing in a darker color like black, charcoal, brown and plum can make the look more wearable. Alternatively, adding a dash of shimmer in the inner corners like I did below also helps.

* Go heavy with eyeliner and mascara. This is a must to avoid a bruised/swollen look.

* Wear it as an eyeliner. If you are not quite ready to wear red all over, try lining your eyes with red like I did below.

* Red eyeshadow tends to intensify any redness in your eyes so if your eyes are tired, save it for another time.

* The dye used to make red eyeshadows can potentially trigger off a bad reaction on certain people. Please use with precaution, especially if you have sensitive skin.
