Two-way cakes, otherwise known as two-way powder foundations in the Western market, have always been the holy grail of many in Asia. While their ease of use and portability are undeniably appealing, my drier combination skin has never been a fan. But when I saw the limited edition Shu Uemura x Mamechiyo Foundation Case, I knew I HAD to get the matching Shu Uemura Face Architect Glow Enhancing Powder Foundation and somehow make it work. After all, it is not often that you come across packaging THIS cute!
Ever wondered the differences between loose powders, pressed powders and two way cakes? Here are the answers!
Just as its name suggests, Loose Powders are powders that come in loose form. They usually come in a sifting pot and are used to set liquid foundation. Their coverage tends to range from sheer to medium. Available colors include translucent, flesh tones and correctors. Loose powders are also suitable for all types of skin.
When MAC Mineralize Skinfinish Natural was first launched last summer, it was completely sold out in Chicago and even the testers were gone. So when they were finally re-released with the MAC Mineralize Skinfinish & Satinfinish Collection, I was SUPER stoked to try them out!
When I saw pictures of the Asian exclusive Stila Angel Light Whitening Powder Foundation (~$47), I could not resist the super cute packaging and ended up going through great lengths to get my hands on it.
The foundation came with SPF24+ and whitening properties to brighten your skin. Although I did not notice any brightening effect on my skin, the high SPF was definitely a plus. The finish was also very matte yet did not accentuate any dry patches.
The one thing that needed improvement though, was the color range. While I got the foundation in my usual Stila shade (C), it was very yellow – even on my Asian skintone. Plus when it oxidized throughout the day, it got darker by almost a shade!! As much as I loved the cute packaging, I will not repurchase.
