Old Hollywood Glamour Makeup Looks, Tutorials and Tips

Finally saw Burlesque on Friday and totally LOVED the hair and makeup on Ali Rose, played by Christina Aguilera! So here are a few breakdowns and face charts of some of my favorite looks by Christina’s makeup artist, Kristofer Buckle.

Look #1
For Ali’s small-town-girl look, Kristofer used “soft mauves on her lips and a very blushed coral on her cheeks”. He also kept her eyebrows “light and secondary” with Anastasia Perfect Brow Pencil in Ash Blond. Read this to learn how to rock coral blush.

Drama is an understatement when it comes to the Dolce & Gabbana A/W 2009 show at Milan Fashion Week. The collection featured lots and lots of shoulders (yes they are back!), all kinds of fur, ruffles, tuxedos and even a ballgown with Marilyn Monroe photo prints. While black and white dominated the luxe collection of belted dresses and coats, Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana added in a pop of color with a few pieces and accessories in hot pink, blue and red. My favorites are the red corseted dress, the ruffled dresses and those gigantic suede platform wedges (how can you not love them?!) What about you ladies?

Celeb makeup artist Beau Nelson was right – the ’80s are back! For his A/W 2009 collection, Giorgio Armani created a beautiful collection of 80s-inspired chunky knit cardigans, fitted jackets, tight leggings, pencil skirts, cocktail dresses and more in greys and blacks. And to go with the retro theme, models strutted around in a super tight updo with a bun on one side, strong, purple smoky eyes and fire-engine red lips. Hot!
