Celebrity Makeup Breakdown: Leighton Meester at Teen Choice Awards 2010

At the 2010 Teen Choice Awards on Sunday, Covergirl Celebrity Makeup Artist Molly R. Stern gave Leighton Meester a soft, pretty glow with blue eyeliner and nude lips.

“I prepped Leighton’s skin with Josie Maran Argan Oil Skin Primer and lightly moisturized with SK-II Facial Lift Emulsion. Next, I sparingly used CoverGirl Clean Liquid Makeup.

For her eyes, we wanted a celestial glow with a smidge of an edge. So I first based her eye with NARS Cream Shadow in Corfu on the lid with Shu Uemura ‘P Gold 94′ over the top. I added a little silver sparkly glittery shadow from RMK, a treasure I found in Japan, to the inside of the lid and under the outer edge of the eye. Next, I lined the top of the lid at the lash line and under the eye with CoverGirl LiquiLineBlast Eyeliner in Blue Boom. For her lashes – 2 coats of CoverGirl LashBlast Fusion in Brown was the perfect finish.

On the cheek, I used Kevin Aucoin Creamy Moist Glow in Nuelle and dusted YSL Touché Blush over the top.

To set her look for the red carpet, I dusted all over with La Mer Treatment Powder Foundation in Linen.

On the lips I wanted a long-lasting nude so I chose CoverGirl Oulast Lipstain in Nude Kiss on the lip with CoverGirl ShineBlast Lipgloss in Dazzle over top.”

Leighton Meester/a> totally redeemed herself at the KIIS FM’s Jingle Ball in Los Angeles after her little mishap at the American Eagles Outfitters grand opening celebration. The young star wowed the crowd in a white Cushnie et Ochs crew neck marble print dress and a smoked-out cat eye.

According to In Style, Dean Bryant created Leighton’s look by brushing espresso shadow up to the crease and blending it towards the tail of the eyebrow with a small brush. He then lined the top lash line with black eyeliner and blended that outwards as well. To finish, dark brown pencil was applied on the bottom lash line and smudged upwards, with a final touch of fake lashes.

Makeup Tutorial: How To Create The 80s Inspired Strong Cat Eye

With the 80s bigger than ever this fall, the iconic cat eye has been spotted everywhere! First, there was François Nars’ work at the Marc Jacobs A/W 2009 fashion show and my very own interpretation of it.

Then comes Leighton Meester in the “Somebody To Love” music video and Beyonce in her latest “Video Phone” music video with Lady Gaga.

What You Will Need

* Eyeliner pencil/Cream-based eyeshadow
* Powder eyeshadow
* Mascara

Step 1. Color in your entire eyelid up to the crease with a black eyeliner pencil or cream eyeshadow. I used MAC Greasepaint Stick in Black here.

Step 2. Pulling the eyelid taunt, draw a line from the outer corner and flick it upwards. Beginners can place a piece of paper by the outer corner of the eye as a guide.

Step 3. Join the line with your eyelid, forming a triangle. Fill in the triangle completely.

Step 3. Pat a black powder eyeshadow for maximum pigmentation and staying power. I used Yaby Cosmetics Pearl Paint Eyeshadow in Hematite here.

Step 4. Line the lower eyelid with the black pencil. Make sure it joins with the line on top.

Step 5. Top with black powder eyeshadow.

Step 6. Clean up the undereye area with a brush dipped in concealer and finish with several coats of mascara on both top and bottom.

Tips On Wearing This Look

* Since the eyes are the focus, remember to keep the eyebrows clean and arched. Pluck all stray hairs and fill in sparse areas with a pencil/brow powder.

* Unless you are going with a full-on 80s look, keep the rest of your face bare with just a bit of nude blush and lipstick.

Spotted! Kim Kardashian and Leighton Meester both in gorgeous white dresses but totally different looks at the 61st Primetime Emmy Awards tonight. Who rocked the look better?

On Kim: Ina Soltani dress, Gucci shoes, Swarovski clutch and Siera ring

On Leighton: Bottega Veneta dress and clutch, Roger Vivier shoes and Cathy Waterman jewels

Kim looked strikingly similar to J. Lo with uber frosty eyeshadow, long wispy fake lashes and nude lips while Leighton wore her usual smoky brown eyes with red lips that match her clutch.
