Celebrity Hair & Makeup: Shailene Woodley at 2012 Oscars

Need hair and makeup ideas to go with a white dress? Take a cue from Shailene Woodley, who totally nailed the look at the 84th Annual Academy Awards with a Valentino Couture gown, sultry coppery shadow and chic chignon.

Makeup
“Today is a special day for Shailene and so I wanted to use a little more makeup than what she typically wears,” says makeup artist Stephen Sollitto working for Hourglass Cosmetics. “Her look is about luminous skin, defined eyes and a sophisticated palette of coppers and bronzes. She looked exquisite yet still young, fresh and fashionable.”

Stephen began by prepping Shailene’s skin with Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer to create a smooth canvas for makeup and ensure a flawless finish with real longevity. He followed with Hourglass Illusion Tinted Moisturizer in Shell, which imbues skin with luminosity, and Hidden Corrective Concealer in Fair, an undetectable cover-up.

To add warmth, he contoured Shailene’s cheekbones with Hourglass Superficial Waterproof Bronzer, a silky powder that withstands high humidity, sweeping the product to her temples, hair line, nose and chin. He then applied a dusty rose blush and finished with the highlighter from Hourglass Illume Crème-to-Powder Bronzer Duo in Bronze Light for a gorgeous glow.

Stephen lined her eyes with Hourglass Calligraphy Liquid Eye Liner in Cognac, a rich brown shade. Before adding eye shadow, Stephen applied Hourglass Film Noir Full Spectrum Mascara to gauge the darkness of her eyes. He also swept Hourglass Film Noir Lash Lacquer at the roots of the lashes for drama, thickness and inky black sheen. Stephen then covered the entire lid of the eye with the cream shimmer shade of Hourglass Visionaire Eye Shadow Duo in Suede to reflect light. Last, he applied the copper shade from Hourglass Visionaire Eye Shadow Duo in Gypsy for a dose of dramatic color.

Stephen lined the lips with Hourglass Trace Lip Liner in Bare, and followed with Hourglass Prodigy Hydrating Lip Gloss in Eden for a peachy beige sheen.

Hair
Hair stylist Campbell McAuley gave Shailene a ’70s style textured chignon with a Moroccan twist to mirror the textures of her dress.

1. Starting with wet hair, apply Matrix Total Results Amplify Wonder Boost Root Lifter to give the base of the hair volume.

2. Blowdry hair with a round brush to smooth the texture.

3. Set hair in Velcro rollers for one hour.

4. Remove rollers, brush out curls and worked Matrix Total Results Sleek Silk Wonder Smoothing Oil from roots to end for shine.

5. Gather all hair into a textured ponytail at the crown of the head.

6. Twist small sections of the ponytail and wrap them up to the base of the hair to make a round shape.

7. Half way through, wrap remaining sections around the round shape to give it a criss-cross texture.

8. Finish with Matrix Design Pulse Hard Lock Hairspray to hold the style in place.

Nails
For Shailene’s nails, Celebrity Manicurist Nettie Davis used a mix of essie’s Ballet Slippers and Au Natural to create a light, neutral manicure. “I wanted to create a simple nail to complement Shailene’s mod 70s style dress. I created a neutral beige mixing Ballet Slippers and Au Natural,” stated Davis.

Celebrity Hair & Makeup: Kate Beckinsale at 2012 Golden Globe Awards

With the help of makeup artist Molly Stern and Frederic Fekkai Stylist Renato Campora, the ever gorgeous Kate Beckinsale looked even more so tonight at the 69th Annual Golden Globe Awards. Read on for the full breakdown!

Skin
Molly began by moisturizing Kate’s skin with Natura Bisse’s The Cure Cream. She then primed with Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer which creates a flawless canvas for makeup, followed by a light application of Hourglass Illusion Tinted Moisturizer in Sand. Molly loved the sheer finish of the foundation which allowed the British beauty’s gorgeous skin to shine through.

Cheeks
Molly used the bronze tone in Hourglass Illume Crème-to Powder Bronzer Duo in Sunset to add warmth to her skin, and followed with the blush tone applied on the apples of her cheeks. She then dusted NARS Miss Liberty high on her cheekbone to add an extra glow.

Eyes
Molly used the bronze shade of Hourglass Visionaire Eye Shadow Duo in Gypsy as a base, and set it with NARS Galapagos Eye Shadow, smudged deep into the lid. For an extra pop of light, she dabbed Chanel Blazing Gold Ombré Essential over the inner lid. Her lashes are deep and jet-black due to Hourglass Film Noir Full Spectrum Mascara, followed by Hourglass Film Noir Lash Lacquer which was painted over them for an extra kick of drama.

Lips
Hourglass Femme Rouge Velvet Crème lipstick in Fresco was used as a base on Kate’s lips, followed by Hourglass Extreme Sheen Lip Gloss in Imagine for a glistening sheen.

Hair
Renato created a modern take on a french twist that focuses on texture and body on Kate.

To achieve a base of texture and manageability, Renato applied a blend of the Fekkai COIFF™ Bouffant Lifting & Texturizing Spray Gel and the Fekkai Brilliant Glossing Cream throughout the hair, followed with a rough blow dry. Next, Renato used a 1½ inch curling iron to create loose curls, letting the curls set for 10 minutes so they fell, creating little bit of a wave. 2011 Holiday Makeup Looks By Celebrity Makeup Artist Gina Brooke

This year, Hourglass Cosmetics Artistic Director Gina Brooke brings us yet another set of gorgeous, easy-to-do holiday makeup looks. The first consists of glittering green eyes with shimmering cheeks and pearlescent lips while the second pairs inky black eyes with stunning purple lips for more drama.

Look #1: Ethereal Beauty

“A vibrant olive shadow really pops – especially if you foil the color,” says Brooke, who suggests using Visionaire Eye Shadow Duo in Dune. Using a shadow brush, apply the champagne shade first. Use your finger to blend for a graduation of color. Then apply the green shimmer shade. To heighten the impact of the shade, wet your brush before application but make sure to let the shadow dry before moving on to another shade. Pair your statement eyes with Illume Crème-to-Powder Bronzer Duo in Bronze Light applied to the cheeks. Focus on the highlighter shade in the duo. Finish up with Extreme Sheen Lip Gloss in Fortune.

Look #2: Super Vamp

Turn heads with this directional look expressly designed for evening glamour. First, apply the cream shimmer shade of Visionaire Eye Shadow Duo in Suede over the entire eyelid. Then, line the eyes with Calligraphy Liquid Eye Liner in Ebony and apply Film Noir Full Spectrum Mascara to lashes. Follow with Film Noir Lash Lacquer on the top and bottom to add shine, volume and drama. The final stroke? “I like to use Lash Lacquer as an eyeliner to create an extremely glossy line above the eyes,” says Brooke. “Just retrace your existing line with Lash Lacquer’s brush applicator.” Balance the glossy eye statement with matte plum lips by applying Aura Sheer Lip Stain in Scarlet.

Extra Tip: “The holidays are the perfect time to explore a more refined and layered look,” says Brooke. “I always prime first with Veil Mineral Primer and follow with Illusion Tinted Moisturizer for a glowing complexion. They’re the fundamental steps for looking elegant.”

Runway Beauty: Imitation of Christ S/S 2012 Makeup Breakdown

To go with the super-chic wedding party theme at the Imitation of Christ Spring 2012 show, my favorite makeup artist, Gina Brooke from Hourglass Cosmetics, devised a look that showcased flawless skin, vivid eyes and stained lips. Simply gorgeous!

“It’s about clean, beautiful and memorable makeup – it is a wedding after all,” says Brooke. “This look is timeless, it’s never going to go out of style.”

Skin
Start with Primer Serum (launching in Summer 2012) to create a moisturized canvas for makeup. Follow with Illusion Tinted Moisturizer, or Immaculate Liquid Powder Foundation (launching Spring 2012) if you have an oily complexion and apply with No. 2 Foundation brush. Conceal dark circles or blemishes with Hidden Corrective Concealer.

Eyes
Apply Visionaire Eye Shadow Duo in Lagoon (blue), Dune (gold) or Prism (silver) on the lid and blend with fingers. Follow with a subtle application of Script Precision Liner to enhance the lash line. Follow with Film Noir Mascara to define the lashes and finish with a glossy topcoat of Film Noir Lash Lacquer.

Cheeks
Apply Aura Sheer Cheek Stain in Flush to the apples of the cheeks and blend with the fingers. Highlight cheeks with Illume Crème-to-Powder Bronzer Duo in Bronze Light.

Lips
Apply Aura Sheer Lip Stain in Flush to lips.

Meet Celebrity Makeup Artist Gina Brooke In Person!

In celebration of Fashion’s Night Out, Hourglass Cosmetics Artistic Director/former Artist Director for Shu Uemura/makeup artist for Madonna, Gina Brooke, will lead a team of makeup artist to host a performance art, avant-garde makeup show on Friday, September 10th.

The event will take place at the Sephora store in New York City’s Union Square (45 East 17th Street between Union Square West and Park Avenue South) from 5 to 10 pm, with Gina’s performance at 7.

I met Gina in person earlier this year and she is truly one of the best! Do not miss out on this great opportunity if you are in the area!
