Mascara vs False Lashes vs Lash Extension
I have been getting a lot of e-mails and requests regarding this topic so here is a comparison of the three. Hope you guys find it useful!
| Pros | Cons | |
| Mascara | * widely available * a tube can last up to 3 months * cheapest * easiest to use | * problem of smudging/flaking/clumping * needs to be removed at the end of the day * constant use can cause lashes to become dry and brittle |
| Fake Lashes | * can provide a subtle to really dramatic effect * can be customized for different styles and lengths * no smudging/flaking/clumping * minimal damage to lashes * a pair can last up to 2 weeks * relatively cheap | * application requires practice and time * needs to be moved at the end of the day * risk of falling off if not glued on properly |
| Lash Extension | * looks most natural * can last up to 4 weeeks * can be customized * no smudging/flaking/clumping | * most expensive * needs to be done professionally at a salon * results can be uneven * cannot be used with oil-based removers |
So what’s my favorite you ask? If you look at the list of pros and cons, you probably would have guessed it – yes false lashes! I used to use mascara every day (L’oreal’s Voluminous was my HG) but it made my lashes really brittle and they kept falling out. So I gave fake eyelashes a shot and all I can say is I will never go back to mascara. I wear Ardell falsies on a daily basis and I have never been happier. I also tried Ardell’s lash extension kit. I totally loved the results but it is just too high maintenance. Read my review here.
Ardell False Lashes Review
If you have been following my blog, you would know how much I lurrrrrv Ardell lashes! Not only do they come in all sorts of styles, they are so painless to apply and work just as well as MAC and Shu Uemura. They are also super durable (a pair can last me at least 2 weeks) and only retail from $4 to $6 for a pair. Now that’s what I call a steal!
Below are some of the lashes that I have tried and recommend:

My Lash Extension Experience with Ardell DuraLash Naturals
I have always been dying to try lash extension and thanks to Michelle, I finally got my hands on Ardell DuraLash Naturals Extension Kit. This was my first time doing lash extension and all I can say is boy does it take practice and lots and lots of patience!
Since I have Asian lashes, I chose the Short Lash in Black. The pack comes with 56 knotted individual lashes that are slightly longer than my natural lashes. Following the instructions on the pack, I picked up a cluster of hair with my favorite Tweezerman tweezers, dipped it in the Ardell LashTite Individual Lash Adhesive and randomly placed it on top of my natural lashes and near the roots. I started from the middle of my eye and worked my way outwards. After fiddling around for almost 15 minutes, I finally got 5 clusters on each eye. When I was done, I was pretty happy with the result – it was natural yet you could definitely tell my lashes got thicker and longer.
