Just as promised, here is the 411 on Himegyaru (姫ギャル), a part of the Gyaru subculture that originated in Japan.

Hime basically means “princess” in Japanese and their biggest difference between Himegyarus and other Gyarus is their princessy manner, which is manifested through their clothes, hair, jewelry, accessories etc.

Remember the Gyaru gals with bleached hair, uber tan skin, white makeup and crazy outfits that swamped the streets of Shibuya in the late 90s? With time, this culture has evolved into many different subcultures. Today, let’s look at one of them – Oneegyaru.

According to ricoche.net, Oneegyaru gals are typically in their early to mid twenties and they are a more sophisticated version of the original Gyaru. Oneegyaru gals still tan and bleach their hair but the crazy panda eye makeup is ditched for an understated look. They also like to wear higher end labels like Louis Vuitton, Yves Saint Laurent and Chanel.

An Oneegyaru celebrity icon is Koda Kumi. Oneegyaru gals can also be seen all over the sticker picture machines.
