Cat Eye Makeup Looks, Tutorials and Tips

With the 80s bigger than ever this fall, the iconic cat eye has been spotted everywhere! First, there was François Nars’ work at the Marc Jacobs A/W 2009 fashion show and my very own interpretation of it.

Then comes Leighton Meester in the “Somebody To Love” music video and Beyonce in her latest “Video Phone” music video with Lady Gaga.

French actress Brigitte Bardot is unanimously one of the biggest sex symbols in the 50s and 60s and the original bombshell. Even until now, millions and millions of women try to copy her signature look – sexy bed hair, thick apricot lips and my personal favorite, smoky cat eyes.

Smoldering cat eyes can elongate and lift the eyes for a sexy, youthful appearance. The look works on all ethnicity and eye shapes plus you can wear the line thin or thick to work with different looks.

After a decade, François Nars finally returned to the runway at the Marc Jacobs Fall 2009 show.

Drawing inspiration from the New York night club scene of the 1970s and ’80s and the works of Sprouse, St. Laurent, and Halston, Nars took into consideration each model’s individual beauty and created 65 different makeup looks on the 65 models. Each model has a separate edgy look, reminiscent of the past but still very modern. “We are doing quite an eclectic look,” he said. The inspiration for diversity came from Nars’ book XRAY. “Marc wanted to keep that feeling,” said Nars, “the variety of looks, the same way we do the campaigns for NARS.”
