Barefaced androgyny… red lips… intense eyes… stained colour… matte vs gloss… the building blocks of this season’s trends don’t necessarily sound like anything new. Put them in the perspective of FALL 2011’s most pervading attitudes, though, and suddenly they’re fresh again…

This spring/summer, MAC is bringing us beauty that involves brave statements, experimental textures, handsome feminity and art:- A vivid Basquiat-bold lip on a stripped-back skin (Pop Classic), a saccharine sweet colour applied in an avant-garde manner (Ice Dream), a stripped back, minimalist face to counter a complex collection (Raw Fined) and exploring the precise points of contrast between light and shade in a tan-toned face (Terra Copper).

Besides shocking neon lips, we are seeing lots of colors on the eyes this spring. At Alberta Ferretti and Aquilano.Rimondi, washes of soft greens covered the upper and lower lid while a richer, bolder green was used at Oscar de la Renta and Loewe.
With lips drenched in eye-popping neon shades of orange and fuchsia on the runways of Jil Sander, Fendi, Marni, Diane von Furstenberg and more, the bright lip look has been taken to a whole new level this spring.
