MAC Cool Heat Collection Reviews

June 13, 2008

Slimshines ($14)
These all come in the frost formula and are sheerer and more hydrating than the regular lipsticks. All colors, except Gentle Summer, which will be made permanent, are limited edition.

Tropic Glow – Blue-pink with silver pearl
By Degrees – Neutral brown-pink
Gentle Summer – Light clean yellow-pink with white pearl
High 90s – Pink-orange
Swelter – Sheer red

Eyeshadows ($14)
These are all new and limited edition. They are great for the summer and would look hot on all skin tones.

From Top to bottom (left to right):
Warming Trend – This “frosty light taupe” in the Veluxe Pearl formula is highly pigmented and reminds me of MAC’s Bagtelle eyeshadow from the D’ Bohemia collection. If anything, it looks more like a muted gold than a taupe to me.

Solar White – This “frosted muted white-gold” is super frosty, highly pigmented and very similar to MAC’s Vanilla pigment. It is perfect as a highlighter under the browbone or in the inner corners. Loves it!

Warm Chill – This “frosty seafoam green with gold pearl” looks like a shimmery kiwi color with a lot of gold in it. It is similar to Stila’s Kiwi eyeshadow and looks like a gold version of MAC’s Metamorph eyeshadow. It is a pretty color but the pigmentation is not as good as I expected and the texture is slightly chalky.

Blue Flame – When I saw this “dirty metallic navy blue”, I knew I had to have it. The color is a shimmery dark navy blue which looks like a darker version of MAC’s Deep Truth eyeshadow. Unlike Deep Truth, this comes in the Veluxe Pearl formula, hence its better pigmentation. It also looks really pretty when paired with Warming Trend.

Gulf Stream – This “frosty mid-tone blue-green with green pearl” is a frosty aqua color, which is similar to MAC’s Teal pigment and a darker version of MAC’s Steamy eyeshadow. It is highly pigmented and goes on very smooth. Pretty but nothing too unique.

Cool Heat – Described as a “frosty teal with multi-dimensional pearl” in the Frost formula, this is a true peacock green that I find similar to MAC’s Big T eyeshadow from the C Shock collection but with a lot more glitter. Pigmentation-wise, this is better than Big T but still not as good as I would want it to be.

Climate Blue – This “midtone violet-blue with pink pearl” in the Velvet formula is definitely the prettiest color out of the bunch. The color looks like a darker version of MAC’s Iris Print eyeshadow from the Culture Bloom collection and just like Iris Print, the pigmentation is poor (in fact, the poorest out of this entire collection). You really have to pack this baby on to bring out the color and I would not recommend blending this color too much because you will end up rubbing it off. Nevertheless, I still ended up getting this – it is just *too* pretty and I will definitely find a way to make it work.

Below is what I picked up:

Left to Right: Solar White, Blue Flame, Climate Blue

    hey phyllis,
thanks for the post about how you did your hair for your beauty seminar- i’ve been wondering how you did that.
i was wondering about your opinion about skin food products. i see that you use it a lot- the packaging makes me a bit skeptical if it’s a product that really “works”, or if it’s just “pretty”.
Also, do you think that a tinted moisturizer should have a shade that matches your skin tone in order for it to work well for you? Cause I recently bought one by Missha that doesn’t have a designated shade.
I was just wondering about your opinon on tinted moisturizers.
    thanks.

    ooh, looks nice ^^

Also, I have a few questions.. I’m going to Hong Kong this summer and since it’s your hometown, do you have recommendations on what I should buy there? Are there places in HK where BB creams are sold?

I got Solar White too! It’s so pretty! Climate Blue is really pretty as well but like you said, the texture is so dry that I ended up passing it.

I am leaving Chicago on the 23rd and will be back on July 24th, so let me know if you need anything from Hong Kong.

hi phyllis! thank you for the review 🙂

i have a few questions though. how does Solar White compare to Femme Fi from Neo Sci-Fi and Shore Leave from NN? and also how is Blue Flame compared to Flashtrack and Bell Bottom Blue pigment?

    thanks 🙂

Hey Beautiful, I just wanted to check you out. I can’t comment much about make-up though – other than I like the fact the woman use it 😉
