This summer, Kanebo Sensai has launched a mattifying version of Lauren Conrad’s favorite Fluid Finish Foundation!
Like the original Fluid Finish, the new Kanebo Sensai Fluid Finish Lasting Velvet Foundation comes in a sleek 30 ml glass bottle with an easy-to-use pump. It also contains the same ingredients – Phyto-Squalene, Rice Extract, 55% Fuji-Sensui Water, Koishimaru Silk and SPF 15 – to deeply moisturize skin while protecting it from the sun. What’s different is the new “Instant Fitting Oil” that evaporates off the skin’s surface in just 15 minutes so skin is left silky-smooth, moisturized yet matte.
Color selection-wise, there are 8 shades that covers light to tan skin tones. I have FF 203 Natural Beige and FF 204 Almond Beige, two medium yellow-based shades that worked for my NC30 skin.
The texture of the foundation was one of the creamiest I have ever seen, just like the Fluid Finish. It blended wonderfully with just fingers or a brush and never seeped into fine lines, highlighted flakes or created shine.
In addition, the coverage was divine! The foundation was so pigmented that one small pump (roughly a pea-sized amount) erased any signs of flaws under my eyes, around the nose and the lips. Yay for not having to even use a concealer!
The finish was velvety, not overly matte, natural-looking and lightweight – simply made for “non-matte” girls like me! Not to mention, the foundation wore well all day even without a setting powder and touch ups! More love for Kanebo Sensai ❤
Kanebo Sensai Fluid Finish Lasting Velvet Foundation is available at Neiman Marcus for $50.

A favorite blogger of mine that quit awhile ago said that this was her FAVORITE foundation, I am definitely going to have to splurge someday!
As a foundation junkie, this will be on my to try list:) The price is not outrageous as compared to the likes of other high end Japanese brands such as Cle de Peau. Thanks.
So do you prefer this or the Fluid Finish? FF was my HG.
This has more of a matte finish compared to the FF and is better for the summer.
I am Indian, with yellow undertones, light brown skin. What shade would be appropriate for me – the 204 or the darker 205 Topaz? And how is this different to the original FF?
Hi Nisha,
I’ve never seen 205 but 204 is probably a good match for MAC NC40-45.
Have you seen the color FF 202? I would have to order it online but i’m worried 202 might be a little light with not enough yellow. But I can see that FF 203 has yellow in it but worried it might be a little too dark.
No I haven’t seen 202 either. What shades do you wear in other foundations? I wear MAC NC30 and can get away with both 203 and 204.
Would you say that FF 203 is a little on the light side or dark side for you? Or a perfect match?
203 is a teeny bit darker than my NC30 skin but matches my neck.
Does the foundation photographs well in photos? Does the skin look white due to the SPF 15?
Thanks,
Cathy
It seems to photograph fine for me but the colors I have are just a tinge darker than my natural skin tone.
Hi I was wondering what shade would you recommend for a mac nc25? I was thinking of ordering this foundation in the shade 202, but I don’t know if it would be a perfect match or not. Thanks.
Hi Vickie,
202 should work on your NC25 skin. I wear NC30 and 203 is just a teeny bit darker than my natural skin tone but you can’t really tell. Hope you like the foundation!
Hi,
I was wondering what shade you would recommend for me? I’m #20 Clair in Chanel Mat Lumiere, when I look at the foundation matrix this would be a NW25?
Hopefully you can help me since there’s no store around me 🙁 Such a bummer!
Kind regards,
Nina
Hi Nina,
I wore #20 Clair for Chanel foundations when I was paler so 203 might be a little dark for you. I say go with 202 =)
Thanks!
I think it will be a good match. I have had so many troubles just determining what my undertone is. Even by looking at my veins or trying the jewelry trick. Do you have any tips on that?
P.S. I came here by google search and I must say that I do not regret it at all! This blog is so great, I’m coming back 🙂
No problem! You can check out the following for a few tips on determining undertones:
http://makeupforlife.net/2006/09/warm-vs-cool.html
But please bear in mind, these are just very general rules. To find a good match for foundation, it is best to figure out the undertone on your neck/jawline rather than your face. Some people can be warm on the neck and cool on the face, vice versa, and you want to make your foundation match with your neck.
Interested in the lasting velvet fluid finish, however, uncertain of what color we suit me….Currently using MAC NC42(studio tech)…In your opinion, which do you prefer MAC or Kanbebo & why?
Hi Jade,
I’d definitely go with Kanebo. Most MAC foundations oxidize pretty badly on me.

Hi Sadaf,
You can try 103 (lighter but pinker) or 202 (darker but more yellow).
I have been using MUFE Hd and has been my hg foundation for awhile now. But still in search for other foundation. How is this compare to MUFE hd?
Hi there,
I am an NC25 with neutral undertones. Which shade would suit me?
Thanks
