Fall is never quite fall without smoky eyes and at Donna Karan Fall 2013, makeup artist Charlotte Tilbury working for MAC Cosmetics created a look that was “back to Donna Karan’s DNA, smoky eye roots with a modern twist”.
Yet another 20s inspired look emerged on the runway of Naeem Khan A/W 2013 collection. “The reference for the beauty look was Lady Mary from Downton Abbey. It’s a decadent 1920’s, lived in feel that’s all about the eyebrow. The skin we kept a natural finish to make the brows feel less costume-y”, said James Boehmer, NARS Director of Global Artistry.
“Hitchcock on the red carpet in technicolour” was how Tom Pecheux described the makeup look he created with MAC Cosmetics at Badgley Mischka A/W 2013.
François Nars, Founder & Creative Director of NARS Cosmetics, once again created the look for the Marc Jacobs A/W 2013 runway show. This time, the “eye is smokey, but round and defined, and we created really matte, perfect skin. It’s Joan Jett meets Marianne Faithfull meets punk rock.”
NARS teamed up with John Frieda to create the gorgeous look at Rodarte A/W 2013. While hairstylist Odile Gilbert went for a rocker princess look with a cool, “undone” texture, lead makeup artist James Kaliardos described the look as “the idea of makeup that had been applied on the beach – a bit messy, as if the mascara fell onto their faces. Speckled – like stars in the sky.”
