Monthly Archives: December 2008

Since Christmas is the season of giving, I will be doing a list of giveaways. The first product I am giving away is an Anastasia’s Highlighting Brow Kit ($32).

The Highlighting Brow Kit is the first baked brow product to hit the market. It consists of a trio of terracotta baked brow powders that can be used to fill in eyebrows, on the crease and as an eyeliner, along with a trio of baked highlighters for the brow bone and the eyelid. The product will not hit Sephora until 1/29/09 so get it here for free before anyone else!

To enter the giveaway, simple leave a comment here including your name and e-mail address. The giveaway ends on December 21st, 2008 and is open to US residents only. The winner will be announced here and contacted via e-mail. Good luck!

So as you ladies may have noticed, I have done a bit of updates on the site. The feed has also been changed so if you have subscribed to my feed, please update it:

I will continue to work on adding more pages and features on the site to make it easier to navigate. A video section is also on its way *gasp*

If you have any suggestions on what you would like to see on this site or any other advice in general, please do not hesitate to leave a comment or e-mail me at makeup_forlife@yahoo.com. Thanks!

If you don’t want to fork out $51 for Guerlain’s Meteorites Powder, check out Presciptives’ Winter Reflections All-Over Highlighter ($35) from its Aglow Holiday 2008 collection.

The All-Over Highlighter comes in a container about the size of my palm and contains different-sized powder pearls in medium pink, golden peach and white. Not only are the little balls pretty to look at but they contain uber fine shimmer to create an all-over glow that is so pretty without looking over the top.

I love using the pink ones on the cheeks as a blush and the white and golden peach ones down my nose as a highlighter. Alternatively, I swirl my brush over all of them and apply all over for a subtle, glowy look.

Unlike the Meteorites, these powder pearls are highly pigmented so remember to tap off excess and apply sparingly.

More pictures after the jump!

Hey ladies, I am in the process of revamping Makeup For Life so you will notice changes on the site but I promise the new site will be bigger, better and you guys will *love* it!

Dusty Simington said it once and Nexxus Creative Director/celebrity hair stylist Kevin Mancuso is saying it again:- “This season’s hottest trend is to work with what you’ve got. Don’t fight your natural texture… embrace it.”

With that in mind, Kevin created the following four modern looks that I want to share with you guys. I personally have long, straight hair and Sleek Look #1 is my favorite.

Curly Look #1
Mix two different textures for a contemporary and bold statement.

Step 1: Start by shampooing and conditioning your hair with moisturizing products that add a natural sheen and bounce.

Step 2: Towel dry hair, and spray locks with a leave-in conditioner to help lock out frizz and boost shine. Apply a mousse to the bottom half of hair to help accentuate natural curls.

Step 3: Create a side part, and comb hair behind ears. Lightly blow-dry the top and front sections of hair using your fingers to smooth out the texture from your crown to mid-ear level. Emphasize the sleekness of the top section of hair by fastening bobby pins in a half-moon pattern from ear to ear.

Step 4: Blow-dry the bottom of hair with a diffuser to add volume and texture. Use a large barrel curling iron to add a few structured curls. Allow hair to cool, and scrunch to build volume.

Step 5: Finish look by applying a volumizing hairspray.
