My Eyebrow Threading Experience

May 25, 2007

Guys I finally did it – I went and got my eyebrows threaded today! I got it done at House of Fraser on Oxford Street and paid £13 (~$26) for it. The whole process took less than 5 minutes but here is one word for you – pain, excruciating pain (okay that was three *lol*) But seriously I never thought threading would hurt that much, like when I went for the Brazilian I already knew it was going to hurt so I was all prepared and ended up walking out thinking hmmm that was not too bad. But this? This really did hurt. I could literally feel the hair getting caught by the thread then pulled out slowly (ouch!) and I ended up tearing up so much =*(

All in all, it was a good experience and I am happy with the results. My eyebrows definitely look a LOT better now. All the stray hairs are gone and the shape is definitely more clean cut. Plus my skin did not get all red and irritated like it would if I waxed. I will definitely be going back again in 4 weeks and hopefully, it will not hurt as much next time.

*Update: My facialist just told threading your eyebrows can cause your eye area to lose elasticity and sag faster – booo!

Hey Phyllis, I’ve been quietly reading your blog for a few months now and really enjoying it. I actually caught up reading pretty much every single post in your archives!

I agree, threading always seems to leave a much tidier shape than waxing! Although these days I’ve switched to a fancy salon with a makeup artist/brow designer who does a combination of waxing and looooonnnng arduous plucking, which leaves very excellent results as well. But before I met her, at other salons I would always put in a special request for threading whenever it was possible. The pain is so worth it for such tidy brows!

hi, like julie, just wanted to say…wow! $26! there are places where i live (Vancouver) where they will thread nice eyebrows for about $3-5. Albeit, it’s probably not as swanky as the place where you did it =)

threading shouldn’t hurt much..i’ve only been a few times because i don’t have the money to spare..i go when i have special occasions..it hurts only as much as plucking..in fact i think it hurts less..if threading causes loss of elasticity, plucking would too..its basically the same thing except you get better results with threading

I don’t know how you’ve been getting your eyebrows done but threading doesn’t lose the skin’s elasticity around the eyes.. waxing does. Waxing pulls the skin (along with the hair) and stretches it. Threading just pulls the hair.

Greetings – I’ve just discovered your blog through a friend of mine that is a voracious reader of yours.

I agree with you regarding the pain of threading – however I did not realize it was so detrimental to your skins’ elasticity.

I was wondering if you had any tips then instead of threading? Will waxing cause the same issues?

I am definitely curious and am sure you’ll be able to find a little bit more info for me! 🙂 (Thanks in advance)

PS. If you think threading eyebrows hurts NEVER EVER I repeat NEVER get your “moustache” threaded!

    Hey there 🙂

Thanks for your post on threading. I am big threading fan, since it is so precise and the arch that is obtained from is incomparable.

I must, must let you know that you were greatly misinformed by your facialist! Waxing is what will cause your skin to lose elasticity–think about the hand motion used to wax your skin, combined with the fact that the wax rests on your skin in order pull out the hair! If threading is done well, the skin should NOT be coming in contact with the thread at all (which, I believe, is essentially what sets threading apart from waxing); it’s the individual hairs that are the target!

So don’t give up on threading just yet 🙂

    Happy threading!
